Wrangler Recovery Photos

Got a call yesterday during Christmas Dinner that a friends friend was stuck in Wharton State Park in the NJ Pine Barrens. He only had GPS coordinates, but no idea where he was aside from that. I met my friend at the Pic-a-Lilli off of Route 206 in Atsion, and we found the two guys and one girl, nearly hypothermic after walking in the cold water and walking 3+ miles from their Wrangler in 30* temps. After 4 attempts of just the YJ pulling the TJ, nothing. Eventually after hooking my XJ up to my buddies YJ, we pulled the TJ out after 4 attempts. Pardon the lack of light, my slave flash (Speedlight SB600) is broken, and I have to drop it off today to get fixed.

He had the Wrangler for 3 weeks. And we figure he learned his lesson now lol. Don't wheel alone, especially in the Pine Barrens without a winch. There's nearly no cell service in the Pines too, CB's are the best communication devices there.

I tried my bumper in a recovery situation and it worked great... but I am still getting tow hooks :)

good reason to never wheel alone!

TJ was towed out of there yes?

Someone needs to show him how to flush all his fluids.

EDIT: i see it was running in the one photo. That was a bad decision..

Nope, he drove out fine ... 3 miles to the road. Told him to call AAA at that point, but not sure what he did. His check engine light was on obviously lol. I told him change to fluids in everything.. t-case, trans, engine oil, both diffs.

That's a picture perfect "Oh Sh1t"
I had a similar stuck experience with my TJ, but I was wheeling with two other YJ's ;)
No ground clearance on a stock TJ.

Lucky for him the air intake is on the passenger side on TJ's

If he had an XJ it might have sucked up some water the way its sitting

It prob would've... same hole I was stuck in almost a year ago.. Can't find photos of me in there (my friends took the pics), but here's one I took of the aftermath:

I owe the YJ guy... lol. He made 2 recoveries for me over the last 2 years... 2am, and 3am... when our straps BROKE. His winch barely worked to get my buddy out once.. we get stuck badddd. I agree, could've been MUCH worse.. could've had a couple DOA by the time we got there....

They owe you one big time! The outcome may have been much worse.

Tough night for him...That is actually a really cool shot. Love the reflection. Nice work (with the pix and the rescue).

Thanks much! Being a photographer I always try to get some "artistic" shots and angles, but it was cold and we were trying to get him out as fast as possible, so I didn't get many chances for good shots.

The last pic of your (I'm assuming it's your) shadow in the smoke is really, really cool. Also, I hope that guy can convince Verizon his phone just magically doesn't work anymore. :D

was thinking the same thing... about the pic and the phone.

steam was rolling off the water round here the other day where it is still open. -30 n slow open water... cool

as for the phone. take it apart, clean it with a toothbrush a very light oil. if it still doesn't work find someone with a working cell phone, take the little white circles from it and put them where they are in that phone. they tell if it got wet or not, so the company can just tell you its your fault... not exactly on the level, but worked for me.

When I dropped my phone in the toilet, my roommates told me to wrap my phone in a towel and put it in the dryer for a little. My phone ended up working later on that day, but then again it didn't go through muddy watter like that.

Nope, Verizon has lil tab stickers on the battery that turn red when wet...

Since we're on the phone subject.....

I dropped mine in a water spray chamber here at work. After I retrieved it from the bottom of the 120gal. tank, I took it all aprart. I put it in a heat chamber at 50°C and left it there for about 3hrs. It dried out and workd fine for another year.

my roomate got in the hottub with his in his pocket and set there for a halfhour then got out and realized his phone was in his pocket so he put it in the oven for a little while to dry it out and it worked.
