Man, what I would have done to have something like this in my backyard as a kid:

Unbelievably cool. When I think of all the fun I had as a kid with a cardboard spaceship (could be folded flat like file boxes for storage/transport), this thing would have just completely blown my mind.

Oh, and check the "credits" page too - link to a 1Gs scope for under $400 (!!!)

True, they can be "reconfigured" with far more ease, but you gotta give the guy who built this thing props - that was a lot of work to go to.

No doubt, it's just that his kid will be bored with it in about two weeks if he isn't already. Then it will be delegated to being yard art.

He's gonna land directly on the planet Nerd, to be crowned king, hey that kid is weird. While he wears his custom wedgie underpants.
Then he will grow up and become some rich guy. I bet bill Gate's had one.

Couldnt agree more.

I admit that it has the wow factor, but it is pretty much one kid show. I had the same dilemma when decided to do something in the backyard. Here is my son pretending to be Rocky:

If you look closely, you will see the chalet in the back. Main room is 8X8, it has 4X8 additional space in the loft, 4X8 porch and a Dutch door.

Best part: it was not so over his head, so he got involved in the process too. Then he got to pick furniture and decorations, but most importantly, he is allowed to sleep there whenever he wants to and also have sleep overs. I know, I am not really a strict parent...

I think the spaceship would be cooler if it were made reconfigurable and with more than one kid in mind...
