I don't get why people say to "do it once". Sure if you've been into wheeling for a while, go straight for what you want.
If you're new to wheeling, start off small and learn how to drive first. 3.5" with 31s was a great learning point for me. Now that I'm up on 33s with long arms, I have a strong feeling I'm going to have a rig that can outdrive me. I'm not the most experienced wheeler out there, but I'm glad I started off small.
Sure I lost a little bit of money, but I reused everything I had minus some suspension components. I still have my 3.5" leaves, I still have my rockrails, front locker, front shafts, gas tank skid, etc.
The money I spent on the smaller lift was worth the learning experience. The problem I see with some people is they go straight to 35s with no driving experience.
