Word to the wise about black helicopters...

In regards to the internet and its containment of truths and untruths: One thing I can be sure of beyond a shadow of a doubt is that there is an influx of intolerant close-minded assholes that are afraid to peak their heads out of the security blanket they hide under. They are usually cowering behind avatars and screen names and love to lambaste and persecute the beliefs or non-beliefs of others. It usually starts off with some good-natured ribbing which is fine, but then it turns into outright intolerance and personal attacks. Wonder why that is? Probably because the chance of face to face confrontation has been virtually eliminated. :peace:

..,intolerant close-minded assholes,...
I don't consider myself to be intolerant or close-minded,...
They are usually cowering behind avatars and screen names
I prefer to cower in the bathtub.
...,love to lambaste and persecute the beliefs or non-beliefs of others.
It's more of a day job kind of thing , I don't really,.. Love ...,it.
It usually starts off with some good-natured ribbing which is fine, but then it turns into outright intolerance and personal attacks,...
I think it's probably more to do with the "mob mentality", not so much the anonymity.

The term “mob mentality” is used to refer to unique behavioral characteristics which emerge when people are in large groups. It is sometimes used disparagingly, as the term “mob” typically conjures up an image of a disorganized, aggressive, panicked group of people. Social psychologists who study group behavior tend to prefer terms like “herd behavior” or “crowd hysteria.” The study of mob mentality is quite fascinating, and it is used to analyze situations which range from evacuations gone awry to the moment when demonstrations turn violent.
The larger study of herd behavior considers groups of all animals, not just humans. People have been observing group behavior of flocks, herds, gaggles, pods, kindles, and other assortments of animals for thousands of years, but it was not until the early twentieth century that observers started applying scientific theories about crowd behavior to humans. Several books published in the teens discussed mob mentality, along with various ways to combat it.
When used in a pejorative sense, the term implies a group of people which has gotten out of control. For example, in a news story about a store sale at which people were trampled, the journalist might use “mob mentality” to describe the selfish behavior of the people who attended the sale. Such stories illustrate the desperate actions which people will involve themselves in during a period of resource competition; people may mob trucks with relief supplies, trample each other at big box stores, or riot in the streets in response to resource scarcity or a perceived scarcity.
However, “mob mentality” is about more than just crowds which have gotten out of control. The field of psychology is very interested in the ways in which human behavior change in response to new social situations. People behave very differently in small groups of individuals than they do in big crowds, for example, and their behavior in crowds is affected by a wide variety of factors.
The study of group behavior can analyze situations to see where, when, and why they went wrong. Stock market crashes, for example, can be precipitated by mob mentality, as people start to panic in response to fluctuating markets. The evacuation of the Titanic, in which a small fraction of the available lifeboat space was utilized, is another great example of mob mentality, illustrating the need for organized evacuation plans and drills so that people know what to do in an emergency.
The study of crowds has also been used to study grim topics like the rise of antisemitism in Germany under Hitler, the riots between Muslims and Hindus which broke out when India was partitioned, and the genocide which took place in Rwanda in 1994. Psychologists hope that by studying mob mentality and crowd behavior, they can prevent such events from recurring.

Sir, it sounds like you may be a threat to society in general. You should probably consider getting some serious help.

I used to work for a psychiatrist. You'd think he would have mentioned something. Oh well.

By the way: I was referring to the interactions of large groups of people(the "mob" or "herd" mentality) in reference to your comment:

I didn't have to look it up on the internet to know what it means.

could you say that in 50 words or less?

I will admit, most individuals out there fall into the Sheeple catagory, but what you are promoting is two full steps above that...or more...there are ignorant sheeple, informed and thoughful individuals, intelligent if somewhat paranoid generally smart people who enjoy chasing zebras and sometimes come up with something worthwhile, and then there are the everything-is-a-conspiracy theorists who think we are being watched by aliens and george bush, aka the Fox Mulder's of society except in real life, the aliens aren't coming...so do us all a favor and knock it down a notch and invest your time in worthwhile fact finding...pick up an economics textbook, take a college level course...the people who basically run the financial industry in this country aren't even sure of whats going on, belive me I know some of them, I'm related to them, if anyone was behind this it would be them, I would have heard somthing by now, I haven't and they aren't.

Well, thanks for at least stating that in a nice way.

No shit, I was just thinking the same thing... Pot, meet kettle.

It's nothing personal Jester, just that I'm sick of people who aren't thinking for themselves, telling me I'm an idiot for not thinking for myself.

1. The Dow is not our economy, it is just a small representation and if people would stop selling their stocks like their dana 35's and just step back and let everything settle down we could really see what is going on.

2. Your right, I have never studied any history ever, you win. Want a cookie now.:wierd: Yes your right eventually all empires will rise and fall, but that does not mean they will collapse totally. Look at England, granted over the past hundred years they have lost nearly every one of their colonial territories but they are still a nation. The USA is not going to self distruct one morning.

3. The reason that the information on the internet is unbiased is because its put out by a bunch of fuggin idiots. Quit reading peoples blogs and forums because theirs no evidence in those, read a article that has some real facts and citations.

4. Get a job I guess you have way to much time on your hands if you can spend hours looking up this crazp on the internet.:peace:

....Well put.
