wiper problem

I have a 92 limited and have recently been having problems with the wipers. The cruise control stopped working first (may be unrelated) and now there seems to be a problem with the wipers. They will work for a bit, then stop. If you jiggle the turn signal/cruise/wiper switch around, most times the wipers will start working again. The left and right turn signals work with no problems. I am thinking it is the switch ($50 from a dealer) - but if so, how do I remove it from the steering column?
