Hey folks. My windshield pump stopped working couple weeks ago. With the upcoming Snow Storm coming I realize I will need to fix this. The wipers work. Is there a seperate fuse for the pump? Where is the pump located? This is on a 99 XJ.

The pump is typically located on the bottom of the washer fluid reservoir.

Pump motors can be accessed thru wheelwell liner plastic at the driver side bumper end.

Earlier this week I was ready to replace the front washer pump in my '96. I removed the fluid tank (easier in the earlier Cherokees) and started to save the fluid, it was really cruddy! Looked like someone had mixed in blue Jello scum.

Bottom line, the pump was fine but the filter in the tank was clogged and the bottle internally coated with floating blue stuff.
After an hour of cleaning and rinsing and scrubbing the internal filter with a toothbrush on a stick and rinsing some more, all is well. If I had just replaced the pump it still wouldn't work.

P.S. If your set-up is like the pre. '97's there are two pumps that are attached to the outside of the fluid bottle. My back pump was fine because it doesn't get used enough to suck scum.

Interesting. Not really related to this post but a good tip. My sprayers weren't totally spraying a good pattern. I mixed in a SMALL amount of CLR in the washer resivoir and guess what, it cleaned the sprayers out. Just an FYI tip to fix partially fouled/clogged sprayers.
