so i have made a decent movie with all the wheelin clips i have. now that it is complete i cannot get it to save the final movie file.

i get this error:

windows movie maker cannot save the movie to the specified location. Verify that the original source files used in your movie are still available, that the saving location is still available, and that there is anough free disk space available, and then try again.

the file is 773kb. i have at least 6Gb free space. i have tried remaking the entire movie from scratch just to verify that all the files are still there. i have tried cutting it down into smaller pieces (as small as 37kb) and it will save some but not all. i have tried increasing the paging file size. tried saving to different locations. . . . blah blah blah......been fighting with this for the last week and cannot figure out what the deal is.

any suggestions ?

your source vids are still in the same location as when you loaded them into moviemaker right? and have not been renamed or moved to new directories / organized since you loaded them in? moviemaker saves sort of a ghost copy of your files in its own directory as you cut them down and break them up into smaller clips. if you move the source files after you have loaded them into moveimaker you will start getting errors like you are describing, but moviemaker will still show them as being "there" and playable, because it saves its own copy (which is part of why it is such a memory hog). try completely removing the files from the files list in moviemaker (usually a browser bar on the left side) and loading them back in. :dunno:

thats where i would start anyway. i got tired of the memory limits in moviemaker and the random freezing and crashing and just went out and bought Vegas movie studio.

the basic version is about $60 or so, and its waaaaaay easier to use, and alot more versatile.

good luck

that is actually next on my list if the "movie makin Gods" here cant figure it out. I did a ton of converting of vids because my camera uses a quicktime program that clashes with Windows media. so it is possible i renamed or moved somthing during the cnversions etc... i thought by rebuilding it from scratch if there was an error there it would show up. but i think i understand what you mean when you say it will play it anyway.

damn! that sucks ! there's gotta be at least 50 clips that i will need to reload into the collection.

:rattle:

thanks

windows movie maker is the devil, get vegas and dont look back. its like going from a pinto to a ferrari. :D no more choppy video, no freezing. its great.

good luck
