Window Vent Visor whatever they're called

I pulled a set of metal window vents while I was at the junk yard. Well I didn't pay enough attention to how they were in the window and now I want to make sure I put them on right so I don't mess up the molding. Do they go right behind the rubber molding and just push up? I did the front driver's side and it just seems to push the molding out funny. Thanks.

They're held on with a double sided tape. Since you pulled them, the tape needs to be replaced. I don't know for sure since I don't buy tape other than Duct, masking or scotch, but I would check out the local hardware store for some good 3M stuff.

These aren't the tape kind--they have flat metal edges that somehow push into the window molding.

They do push the rubber out where the clips go. I've tried them behind the rubber and in front, and both have the same result. I had to lube up the upper rubber weatherstrip with silicone spray and carefully close the window tightly. Left it that way for a week or so and the rubber sort of took a set.

Even now, if I leave the window cracked for extended periods (like summer), it's tough to close the first time I want it all the way up.

I just put my 4 in and they had metal clips that pushed up into the channel after you pulled the rubber away holding the visors on. Then you pushed the rubber back up into position.

Correct. And with the rubber pulled down, you have a choice of inserting the vertical flanges on the ends in front of or behind the vertical window channels.

Neither seems to matter. The clips still bulge the rubber when it's replaced, and the window doesn't like to close fully.

put them on my fiance's 96 xj, and yea the metal clip pushed out the rubber quite a bit, I trimmed the weatherstripping around the clips but it helped only slightly. The clips didn't all seem to hold properly either, so I put silicone in between the door metal and visor to help seal it. I also have these on an 82 buick with no problem at all, so I assumed the window channel on the XJ is much narrower.
