I figure if the university sees no benefit to allowing him to speak on university grounds, then so be it. It would seem that this is a student trying to get him on as a speaker.

I believe the U-Wyoming receives public money from the State. Recieving public money, whether a public or private institution has certain strings attached to it.

What normally happens at these things is that the folks are invited by a student group, they get their press and give their talk, and leave.

Sometimes folks even walk out, or shout at the speaker

As UW alumni and a resident of Wyoming I do agree that this goon has the right to speak. UW is a public school and our state's only university. No one is telling Mr Ayers he can't speak. The university is just telling him, not on the UW campus. That is not infringing on his first amendment rights just the venue they will ocurr in. From a personal point of view the man belongs in jail. I still remember listening to the news reports on TV regarding his group's wonderful exploits. Nearly fourty years later he is still profiting from criminal activity. Who ever said crime does not pay.....

Just because your a US citizen does not give you the right to free speech whenever and where ever you like....kind of like yelling "FIRE" in a movie house.

Besides, this piece of c..p (Ayers) does not deserve to speak on any campus in the USA. He did the same basic thing as Bin Laden, only years ago when Bin Laden was in diapers. The only respectable thing Ayers deserves is a good quality rope.

Free Speech is easy to agree with when it matches your opinion but harder to stomache when it doesn't. Would anyone have tripped on this if it wasn't given the free publicity that threatening a lawsuit brought? Most of the country would not have even been aware, not a blimp on the radar of importance.

There is a vast chasm between innocence and the lack of a conviction.

My understanding is that there was law enforcement misconduct in the investigations of the SDS and Weather Underground, and that charges were dropped to avoid embarrassment to the FBI and Dept of Justice.

I'm no lawyer, so I'm not going to try and argue whether or not his rights were infringed here...

however:

This kinda tickles my funny bone. Violence because this turd might show up? Are the people threatening this in favor of the "if you can't beat em, join em" strategy or something? When are people going to learn?

Also, I wonder if www.wunderground.com realized what their name was associated with before they chose it? I guess it's too late for them to change it now.
EDIT: nm, they named it after his group... that's what their About Us page says anyways. I wonder why they chose to name their site after such a bunch of scumbags?
