Wife's Focus won't start

My wife has a 2000 Ford Focus with the 2.0 Split Port Injection engine. It gave us some problems a while back where it would be slow to crank and then it eventually just died. We waited a little while and tried it again and it started up. It did that for a couple days and then was fine for about 2 months. Then it started to get that slow crank again and quit starting altogether again. This time we couldn't just wait and try again. The solenoid clicked, the lights were good and bright, everything pointed to the starter so we bought a new one. Had a mechanic replace the starter and it ran. Day and a half later it clicks repeatedly without cranking. When it finally catches and cranks, it will crank forever without starting. We just got it to start today and it ran for a minute before dying. Now nothing happens. I'm thinking maybe ignition switch?

There is a recall on the fuel pump on that vehicle. The dealer will fix it for free.

ahh...if that turns out to be the case, it would make a lot of sense what with the dying and all...could that also be responsible for the repetitive clicking? The starter on occasion (the new one) will click a bunch of times really fast before catching the engine...

Thing almost gave my Cherokee a run for its money...but my CHerokee may not be in tip top shape anymore...

PS, just noticed your avatar: So drunk you couldn't even buy brandy!

There's another recall on the battery cables. Fire hazard. Trace the positive from the battery to the starter in particular. Get the black wire loom out of the way. Look for signs of heat damage. Hope this helps.
