Why You Shouldn't Let Your Wife Wheel Your Rig

My wife has been out wheeling with me several times, but has never been behind the wheel. I made the mistake of letting her drive for a while during the Mill Creek run with Skully and xjboy. She always kinda wanted a Jeep, but after that day she was dead set on it.

Two months later and we now own a new (to us) 2007 JK Unlimited Rubicon. It was priced almost 6k below book, so we couldn't resist. It happens to be the same color as my XJ too. I finally got some pics of it today. Aren't we cute?

Skully, this is your fault! You organized the ride where my wife got the wheelin' bug... :laugh3: Now I've got TWO rigs I have to wrench on! :gee:

That took less time than I expected! I knew a "copycat" comment would be coming. :)

Nope, we've got only the hard top on this one. And yes, even my wife agrees that those cheap, flimsy side steps have got to go!

EVIL DEVIL Chihuahua says;

Congrats! you got a new baby in the family! .......bet she can't wait to wheel it. party1:party1:

You would not be having this problem if you would have not let her drive...........eh? .....I did not force you to let her drive. :D

Sad part is your rig is where all the wrenching is needed. The Rubicon is already set up.............4:1 transfer case, 4:10 gears, electric sway bar disconnects, lockers front and rear. Just add a mild lift, slap some 33's on it, put armor/skid plates underneath and some rocker guards, front & rear bumpers and she is all set. Hardly any wrenching at all.
...............just watch out wheeling with JohnJohn. You might get confused which one is hers? :wierd:

Skully...

33s? Heck a small lift will clear 35s, no rubbing. Rubys already have 32s on them from the factory.

Jawa,

I did a 3.5" front and a 3.5" rear. It levels it out really nice. I put my Fabtech front bumper on it a few days ago. Picked up the winch and winch plate today. 35s are next for me.

Good luck man. Love that JK like it's an XJ. It will treat you well!

I know I was thinking minimalistic there......2" RE lift or something with new shocks and then go from the 32's to 33's...........I was thinking of Jawa's pocketbook so here can spend most of their money on his old toy ;)

Those are 32x11.50's BFG's on the RUBICON package right?

isn't yours leased? You planning all these mods.......does the wife know about this? :D

Yeah, I'm loving it so far. We won't have any money to spend on it for a while though, so it'll have to be wheeled stock. I bet it'll keep up with my XJ for the most part. The biggest limiting factor will be my wife - she's scared of scracthing it!

We drove the Rubi back from Vail Saturday night during the blizzard up there. It didn't slip once, but the windshield wipers are out of reach of the defroster and froze over and over. I had to pull over 7 times to scrape the ice off so I could see. Do you experience that problem too?

if I didn't have such a bad case of ADD I could photshop in like 15 rear doors and title it longjeep.jpg.

no one will probably get that, but it makes me laugh.
You're right, I don't get it, but it DID make me laugh anyway.

No, but if we hadn't been on that trail she wouldn't have had the opportunity in the first place! So there! :spin1:

No worries there - any spending money I get is going to the XJ first! I've got my master plan all set... see, my wife gets bored and swaps cars every couple of years. So, I figure I'll build up my XJ for some serious rock crawlin' fun over the next year or two and make the JK my DD once the wife gets tired of it. Boo ya!

The Rubi comes with 255/75s, which is closer to a 32x10.50.

33s vs 35s prices in minimal. Although it might add a gear job depending on type of transmission and taste.

Yup mines a lease. Financing options have no bearing to me on mod choices. Leasing costs less if you intend on keeping and are disciplined.

Wives also have no bearing to me on mod choices. Now I might be in trouble, but that doesn't stop me.

Nope I have had no troubles with the defroster. However when it's snowing I usually drive the highway with only defroster on. I prefer not to have heat blowing on my feet.

Is the DEF putting out heat? Hot Heat?

Oh yeah, it's pumping out heat. We were feeling it on our faces the whole way. I might try and adjust the wiper arms so that they sit a little higher up on the windshield, mabye that'll do the trick...

Good thinking...or make the fricking dealer do it. 3/36,000 bumper to bumper! I looked at mine today and they are set below the inside metal boarder also. I'll be watching this on mine too.

FYI I have been hanging out on the http://forum.jkboard.com/ UserName: JohnJohn

Much nicer folks than JK-forum. The guy that runs that board is an a$$. He deletes post that rip advertisers and other stuff he does not agree with.

You have the perfect wheeling buddy now! Plus you can pull each other out!

So when does the lift go on? Wheels, and tires?

I'm hoping to do the same thing, however I'm leaning towards a 1998(+/-) model Wrangler.

Yeah no SH!T...we only have to take one set of pictures.

Why a 98?

All the V6 folks say how under powered it is compared to the 4.OL. However dino's show the V6 pulls more horses and more low end. I think the feeling of less power comes from the 4dr crowd. I thought it was way under powered until I looked at how much my 4dr JK weighs, 5500+ lbs. Almost as much as a fricken full size Suburban!
