I recently went to Jiffy Lube with my CRD to get an oil changed. They ended up pulling an oil breather line while working on it, and decided to charge me an additional $20 AFTER the oil change was done.

I had filed a complaint about this at their customer care site and the manager called me back a couple days later to apologize. He said he was mailing me a coupon for a free oil change for my troubles.

That was over two weeks ago. Something tells me that I'm never seeing that coupon...

Then to top it off, I see that five out of nine Jiffy Lubes ripped off a channel 4 news team that was investigating them in the LA area...

Yep, I'm never doing business with Jiffy Lube again...

Yes, rebuilt engine on the xj, going in for the 500 mile oil change. They told me that I needed a new fuel filter. (I had just put in a new one the day before.) I asked the kid how he could tell that I need a new one. He said it looks really old and dirty. Bah !!

I usually do my own, but for 20 bucks you get all the grease zerks loobed and the whole thing gets vacuumed.

I had a friend at work tell tell me that he was lucky he took his car in for an oil change. When I asked him why, he said they found "all kinds of problems". He paid over $400.00 for a break job and vaious other "problems" they "found". He was telling how very lucky he was he took it in. He didn't understand why I was laughing so hard. I asked him if they changed his blinker fluid for him too. (My friend is NOT very mechanicly inclined.)

I don't think i've been ripped off by one of those quick lubes. I'm too lazy to change my oil...it's literally not worth my time and effort when i can have someone do it for me for $30 or less. I stand right there to make sure they change the filter too. I've done the job myself so i know what's involved...the only way you'll get ripped off by one of those places is if you by into their preventative maintence scams or you don't know what they're talking about and go along with it.

The fawking VW dealer (had an 03 Jetta) was bad about charging for the oil filter (oil/filter chage) and not actually changing it. I guess they figured WTF is going to check and see if a cartridge filter was changed? I did the next oil change myself...it was pretty obvious it had been in there for a while.

Once before a big road trip, when I had the old volvo I had my wife bring it to wal-mart to do an oil change. I don't remember why I didn't do it myself, but 3500 miles later, since it was so easy and cheap to have it done, I took it to a local lube it place. The place refused to touch it, apparently the plug head was FUBAR. Took me 2 hours to get it off at the house:gonnablow . I think I had them do it because that car was so low to the ground it was just a royal PIA to do. That will never happen again.

Wal-mart also locked the keys in the car. I still can't figure out how, it will not let you lock the doors manually when the doors are opened, and they unlocked when you opened them from the inside:dunno:

Funny you mentioned a Volvo. My neighbor years ago had a Volvo 850 they decided to take to Jiffy Lube. The technician removed the old oil but didn't bother to put in any new oil!!! The lady drove about 60 miles before the engine completely seized up. Jiffy Lube wound up footing the bill for a new engine.

Well I hate to Mention it but i USED to work at jiffy lube. i was an employee there for about 2 years almost. and yea they pretty much like to fuck over everyone. ever their employees. just though i might like to add this.

Heh... I feel validate now... it was a hunch, ya know... now it's confirmed. LOL

I think one of the most hilarious things ive read about the quick change places was about the free chassis lube. They took there rig in for the oil change and a couple days later the owner crawled under the rig to do some work when he noticed the brake bleeders had grease on them. :yelclap: I would trust the dealer over a quickie lube anyday.

I will never trust them to do any work on mine. The way I see it is I can pay $30 and have them do it, and run the risk of it not being done right, such as not changing the filter, not putting the correct ammount of oil back in, etc. Or I can pay $30 and do it myself, know the job is done right, AND have top quality mobil 1 synthetic in it, for the same price as a quicky place.

I've also had the Jeep dealer not fill up the KJ with enough oil on several occasions. Only went there cause we had, and still do, a bunch of free oil change coupons that we got when we bought it in 03. Needless to say i've started changin the oil on the KJ too...same deal, mobil 1 synthetic and napa gold filter for about $25-$30. Both jobs take roughly 20-30 minutes depending on how slow I move and if I run into any problems.

On another note, I didn't know jiffly lube would do work on a diesel...i've always heard they frown on those kinda jobs. And I definately wouldn't have taken a CRD there...way to new of an engine for them to eff up on. Chances are thats like the 2nd or 3rd one they've ever worked on.

i always change my own oil, but i did let them change the fluid in my transfer case because i was in a hurry onece and i stood by the garage door and watched, told them not to touch anything, no washing windows or touching my fluids or popping my hood.

i once went to j-lube and had them do an oil change, a mile after driving away i saw smoke out the back and smelled oil while going down the highway. i pulled over and saw that the filter seal was popping out of the side of the new filter, they forgot to remove the old one when it stuck onto the adapter. i removed the hot filter with oil all over my arms, screwed just the new filter and one filter seal on the adapter and drove back to j-lube. the engine was just starting to squeak at this point. the checked and confirmed the leak, filled it up and said goodbye. i told them if anythine was wrong with the motor i was coming back and i made sure i got a written statement about what happened from the manager.

they said "should be ok now..." whatever, they dont know shit.

2 years later, do all my own oil changes since then. no problems with the 1-6 motor even though it got pretty damn close to its death that day.

i hate jiffy lube.

I have never had anyone work on my jeep since two weeks after I got it.
The only reason I had some one work on it then was the output shaft housing was cracked when I bought it so I had a mechanic change it so I would have a reciept for warrenty who Effed me anyway.

I cry every year when I have to drop it off for inspection.:rattle:

I worked for a similar place, Avellino's Tires Plus... it was bad. We tried to get as much money out of everyone as possible. We DID do our work the best we could though. It wasn't like we were purposely effing up. One of the techs did forget to tighten the lug nuts on one of our customers cars... we get a car from him 2 mins after he left saying his wheel fell off.... I had to drive that tech down to the customer with a jack stand, lug wrench, etc., and put the wheel back on. Unfortunately, we later found out that that guy works for a local news station. I quit a few days later and everyone I think got fired a month or two later.

I won't let anyone touch my Jeep except for a few select people. Myself, my best friend (who is a mechanic), my dad, and my dad's mechanic who has worked on our cars for 10 years now.

Unless there is a serious problem that I can't figure out on my own, I am the only one that does any work on my Jeep.

heck my wife just bought an '05 chevy impala from the local dealership. it had some miles on it so they changed the oil as a courtesy. so a couple days later i'm reading the manual(she sure as heck won't) anyhow being a little anal about oil in all my rigs i check it and its overfilled. one of the most important things the manual says is"don't overfill the engine oil, could cause damage" now i don't claim to know as much as a technician, but i thought it was interesting. i haven't had anyone change my oil in probably 25 years for the very reasons mentioned here . goes to show we're all human and mistakes can be made. outright rip offs are another story though.

A friend of my wife had here oil changed at JL and then I looking at something a few days later and noticed the front skid plate on her 4-runner was missing. She called the JL and after being told they didn't take it off they found it down stairs. Seems the tech figured she didn't need it. That's why I do my own.

JL is a fing ripoff, I have heard stories of them putting old strained oil back into peoples cars. My friend said that there training does everything but straightout tell you to rip people off. NEVER HAVE THEM TOUCH YOUR CAR!!!!!!!!!!!!

i worked at a jerk you off lube, and its true, they stroke you for everything they can, even the employees get fucked over, i got fired along with 2 other guys because we"didnt fit the jiffy lube image"(we were shall you say outcasts, i looked like a headbanger, one guy was an eminem wanna be and the other kid couldnt stop swearing, that was after the new manager took over, i found out 2 weeks later he fired everyone there and hired all his own guys, said we were all losers and the old manager"corrupted us into not getting enough money in from customers", aka we refused to fuck people over hardcore, and the new guy was ass reaming everyone, screw them, i snagged like a zillion free coupons from there and passed em out for halloween one year to all the parents, can only imagine the look on his face when 400 people showed up for their free oil change....
