Why I need a new cylinder head.

Well I thought I dodged a bullet...by I took a pretty good hit. I pulled the cylinder head today hoping to find minimal damge, but ended up with a little more than that.
Here's a shot of the #6 combustion chamber.

Heres' what the intake valve looks like.

The area indicated by the red arrow is the damage to the guide. You can also see the damage to the edge of the intake port.

The piston took a beating as well.

The good news is that there wasn't any coolant in the crankcase, the #6 sparkplug wasn't damaged, and the block appears to be fine.

Got the #6 piston out and the cylinder walls are in great shape. I'll get a new piston on order tomorrow and have the shop magnaflux the rod to make sure it's in good condition.

Pictures no worky...

Suuuuurrre! after I find them on another board. LOL

So those springs were stock GM parts?

I can try cutting it with my chopsaw.

If you can get the cuts right down the middle of the screw holes, that will work for me. I just need the thing sectioned by cylinder for porting experiments and to section a cylinder or two to check out the casting. Even going LTL by Greyhound or Amtrak gets prohibitive - easier to section the thing (where convenient) and ship two cylinders at a time in 'flat rate' Priority Post boxes (cheaper, too. Only about $30 all up, vice $70-80 for Greyhound or Amtrak...)

I'm trying to collect all of the heads - at least two of each - for experimentation and analysis. Book research, you know - so it's deductible for me to pay the shipping.

(Link - login required, and I'm starting to lose track of where all I have accounts...)

Dood...... Sucks that you're having these issues......

BUT that is the coolest fubar'd valve I've ever seen! :roflmao:

I imagine that'll find a place on a shelf for display somewhere in your garage?
