Why are my tires wearing so fast?

I have 32" Swamper SSR. they are radials and have good reviews. I have less than 1000 miles on them and there is NOTICEABLE wear. It is ridiculous and has me very PO'd i didnt just get the tried and true BFG MTs

any ideas?


yes, i do need an alignment. but this seems so extreme, almost like a tire defect? the are very very soft

If your alignment is off it will wear them fast..Same as my BFG's..Yes i need a alignment too...HTH

Describe in detail the type of wear you are getting and I can advise you how to correct it.

If your alignment is off, even just a little, you can get pretty extreme tire wear.

For instance, if your toe is off by even 1/16", it's like dragging your tires sideways nearly 30 feet with the full weight of your vehicle on them for every mile you drive. That kind of excessive wear adds up fast.

If nothing else, make sure to regularly rotate them so you don't get uneven wear.

I guess I don't understand why everyone is saying "get an alignment". It should be "do an alignment". In less time than it takes you to drive to the shop, you can do it yourself in your driveway. If it's a stocker, all you can adjust is toe-in. And castor wouldn't affect tire wear anyway.

Sorry, you are probably right that changing caster could affect toe-in. I was kind of assuming that you would recheck and adjust toe-in if you rolled the axle to adjust the caster. If the toe-in is maintained constant, caster should not affect tire wear. Mostly it affects self-centering of the steering.

Caster will change the way the tires wear when the tow is correct.
not going straight.
but when you are turning
One wheel will drift while the other does the steering.
This happens because the pivot is no longer parallel with the vertical level of the tire. so, when you turn the wheel it changes your perfect tow in level, and it also shifts the weight of the jeep on to the outside of one tire and the inside of the other.
The tire on the inside of the turn will wear faster because it will tend to grab a little but not enough to turn the jeep or strong enough to make the other side catch up.
