Who actually went to TDS?

Jump This

Just another minion!
I saw just a shwit load of XJ's out there (even saw a bone stock XJ on telephone booth hill!) Having never been there before I didn't know what to exspect.....What I did find was just one heck of a good time! There were a few places that could have used a traffic cop! But, everyone was patient and the full-on grins and smiles on the faces of all told the whole story!!
Now I just want ot head out there again!

I was there, had a great time. The show at the notch on Saturday and Saturday night after the raffle was a blast.

I was there, I had lots of fun.

I was there, and I saw Jes park in the oddest place to watch a chevy blazer get extracted out of the notches. I saw Andy (Porch Puppy) and Hinkley roaming around too.

Had a great time, but after about 15 years of going to TDS, it's starting to remind me of glamis on a holiday weekend. Saw 2 fist fights, and more trash than ever. On Sunday afternoon, someone even threw away a BBQ into the big dumpster that still had hot coals in it....and yes it did catch fire.

I was there!

Yes it is getting out of control!

I was at the notch Saturday night after the raffle and was so disgusted at the trash I filled my truck up with bottles and cans. I was blown away with all the weird looks I was getting and lack of help to pick the trash up. At one point I even parked at the top of the notch so everyone could see what I was doing, no one pitched in to help! Total slobs!

From John Stewart on the FOTR list...
"I just got home today from the final cleanup.

Aside from the Tin Benders and Axle Snappers assistance with the fund
raising, I would like to recognize three clubs for their volunteer
efforts to help keep the desert clean.

Ventura County Axle Snappers (they are a busy club!)
Half-Assed Four Wheelers
Independent Four Wheelers

These three clubs made a special effort to volunteer their assistance
to clean some of the hot spots of trash left behind. They stepped
forward and did it on their own initiative because they care about
keeping the deserts open.

There are others that did clean the mass left from adjacent camps. I
am happy to say that this was the cleanest we have found camp sites
after people start leaving.

It is through the unselfish efforts of the above clubs and others
that are not associated with specific clubs that are evident the
efforts of FOTR are being noticed and practiced in other areas.

Thanks for being there, Del. I should have an official tally for the
funds collected and the attendance by Wednesday evening.

Of interest, while directing traffic around the air compressor on
Sunday, I have one gentleman stop and ask to register. He said he
came in very late Friday and didn't have time to register before the
run. And, he didn't want us to think he was a "free-loader". He
gave me $100 buck for registration on Sunday AFTER the raffle. i told
him that money would be added to the BRC collection."

Lots of slobs out there but what do you expect. A least some of us made an effort to clean things up.

Dan, why didn't you come up and say hi?

Jes

i was there in my TJ, had a blast. won some stuff (CV driveshaft, bunch of Gift Certs, battery and such) in the raffle and a friend won the currie rock jock. must say the notches were good and hard early sat. but by late evening they were pretty smooth.

I stopped to talk to mark, and he told me you guys were around. When you were stuck on that wall in the notches, I didn't realize it was you until I made my way to the other side as you were being pulled out.

On my way back to my XJ, (parked a ways away) I saw Andy and you driving away.
Was one of your rigs making a wierd noise? squeeking or something?

We should get together sometime and maybe have a run or event out there.

Ya, I blew a bead on my second drive up that face and needed a little tug. Shoulda seen it earlier when lots of people were having problems there and using a lot of throttle to get up it. Andy comes along(and people muttering in the background "That XJ'll never make it") and walks right up it without slipping a tire. Really shut the crowd up. :D
Squeeking? Probably my shocks as they're all blown plus the two weeks of wheeling had taken it's toll on my junk.
I doubt I'll ever find myself out there again. It's just too far of a drive(10 hours) when I can go to the Hammers and be in my element with less of a drive. The only reason I went was because it was not that far out of my way to go there when I was driving back from AZ.

Jes

I've been up that face probably half a dozen times. Driver's side tires on the left almost vertical part give the best traction. I just don't like being in the middle of all the craziness at night in the notches.

Dan

have no idea where the notches are......was not out there at night.....it did remind me of Glamis though....was out there yesterday and did not even find so much as a left over soda can.....great clean up work!!!!
