Whiskey dents...

Hahaha! Not quite, mein freund.

Warsteiner or Bitburger is nothing more than glorified Budweiser. Now, there is a kind of fortified German beer that is close to 10% (IIRC), but almost all of it is no stronger than Ami beer.

BTW, I did live there for about a year, so I'm not totally talking out of my ass.

Have you ever tried Cloister Beer, the stuff brewed by a bunch of very happy Monks? Or Dopple Bock, very dark Beer? The alcohol content in most Beers (here) has gone down in recent years, there are still some exceptions available.
The export Beer is toned down a touch, the stuff out of the tap here, is likely twice as strong as a typical American Beer.
Though I'm far from an expert.
I'm usually the desIgnated driver, largely becuase I prefer coffee to booze. Though I do occasionally have a good Beer or a nice Cognac, usually quality over quantity.

The friend's truck is a '96 xcab Chevy with the Vortech V8 with the towing package, so it has the oil and trans cooler. It was once a very nice truck, but yes - the friend is a maroon, moron, moran, or however else you want to say dumba$$. That's why we get along so well.

**p.s. If I go out with friends, I have become the quality > quantity kind of guy. I was once a real alchohol fueled a$$hat getting on the road drunker than Cooter Brown, but then my siblings started having neices/nephews and then I got a DUI, so I've grown up (some) in the past few years. I do still slip every now and then, but that's the problem with fighting demons...their fukin demons, and hard to get rid of.

after loosing one of my better friends in highschool, in front of my house to D&Ding then loosing my girlfriend and our 4YO son to a drunk driver hitting them head on two years later I DONT DRINK AND DRIVE! I dont care if someone goes offroading on their own land, Darwinism set's the standards for that.
I rarely drink, when I do I get tore up and do some stupid things that endanger my own life, not my buddies or anyone else's. there my demons that I taunt everyday.

I was waiting for someone to post something like this, that's why I didn't think it was a great thread to have someone start. I'm sorry for your losses and keep on fighting those demons. It might be a life long fight, but don't let them win.

I lived in Gera, Thüringen for a while when I was in Germany, near where Koestritzer is brewed, one of the oldest "Scwarz Biers" is brewed. The strongest non-fortified beer I know of is "Elephant," a Danish beer that is 7.1%.

While some mainstream American beers may be 3-4%, most "good" beers are 5-6%. I doubt many German beers are more than a typical American micro-brew.

My first experience with that was when I drank a few pints of cardinal while I was in Switzerland, I was surprised at how quickly it knocked me on my ass.

alchahol is the worst for drivinng, even worse than most drugs.

hangovers are bad for spelling

The Klosters or the Cloisters or the Monistaries. Brew Beer in limited quantities. Somtimes the product never leaves the Monistary and you have to go there to drink it. Sometimes limited quatities are made available, usually seasonal. Many of the Bockbiers, have variable alcohol content and in the holiday season or near the end of the year, the alcohol content is highest. The beer is heavy and rich, much like drinking a meal, you got to watch out for the alcohol content, it will sure enough slam your dink in the dirt. Germans have been doing the micro brewery thing for a long time. Though there has been a movement towards toning down the product some and legislating some consisitancy in the end product, drinker beware.

I don't have any experiences because I don't drink, even though most underage college kids I know do drink.

2 years ago when I was a junior in high school, a girl I know, who happened to be rich, was at a party. Her boyfriend tried to take her keys, but she ran out the door before he could and he followed her home to make sure she got home alright. She ended up hitting 2 tellephone poles and a tree, totalling her brand new $23,000 VW that her parents had just bought her. Luckily she wasn't really to beat up, and survived.

Around the same time some kids in their 20's went bridge jumping off one of the many bridges around one night after drinking, and one of the kids ended up falling on the concrete pilon at the bottom of the bridge, and was killed from the impact.

we have so many teenagers lost to drunk driving here it is common to have 4-5 pages of memorials in each year book. my losses were a long time ago and it still hurts, It's not the end of the world anymore but I will never forget.
my mother has been in AA for 22 years, most of my family has died form alchohal in way or another. my friend even wrecked my car from drinking while I was on the mainland. I never have been much on drinking or being intoxicated, but I seem to get all the benifits of a drunk.

I can relate, it is a bummer being surrounded by drunks. About 15-20% of my immediate family and friends, don't have an alcohol problem. All you can do is try to be a rock and not get sucked up in the whole thing.
Watching my mother die of liver failure at 53. pretty much cured me of ever wanting to abuse alcohol. When she finally died, the toxins in her body had about detroyed her mind. The luck of genentics had given her a natually athletic body, she was just naturally strong (as strong or stronger than most men), rarley to never got sick, perfect teeth. Pretty much built like the perverbial brick out house. It really didn't take long for alcohol and drugs (perscription meds.) to destroy it all. She lasted about twelve years after her life got out of control.
