in my 95 i had removed the center vent in the dash, blocked off the ducting and was good to go. had to do some trimming to the vent housing because i dont run small "creadit card radios." if done with thought it looks really nice. so yea its a viable option, just use some thinking power.

"Credit card radio"? Yeah okay.

Get one with RF gain along with squelch and volume, tune your antenna for the channel your club uses it'll do fine, and doesn't anoy the guy in the Jeep 50 feet away.

If I really want to 'get out' I'd just run this.

edit: Don't know why the image isn't working, tried several all with the same result.

I'm thinking of mounting mine there (I've got a compact Uniden) but, rewiring the mike plug to the center console so, I won't have it dangling up there;). What do you think?-------Hans

Is anyone making an RF, or BlueTooth microphone? I know ICOM has them for the HAM radios.

But with it hanging up there you can look like the boys in the Big Trucks. :eeks1:

Seriously though, when I drove full time many drivers set up the mike on a small bungie cord so you could just grab it out of the air, pull it up to talk and then let go of it. No mush, no fuss about trying to put it back in the little clip.

Personally, I wouldn't go with an RF or BT mic. Just what I need, one more thing to keep charged.

Some day I will make an new panel or modify the origional vent panel to fit around the radio....
I have an external speaker (somewhere in the shop), so I can hear it clearly. I haven't yet wired it up, or run the antenna cable, I will do that tommorow. But for now, it's in....

No, I am not going to miss the vent in that area, it either blows up my shirt or is shut off completely. I am going remount the tube so it will be my foot warmer/cooler.

this is what I have ended up with, I thought about it a great deal. I think I have ended up with a healthy compromise between cb visability, and it being out of the way..

If I had the center console, I would have gone that route. Where mine is mounted seems to work for me.

When I had the radio mounted in my 87 Mazda p/u, I had it mounted in the stereo pod underneath my Head-unit.....
