Where did you mount your extinguisher?

Finally some critical tech! I mounted mine on my valve cover, that way if the motor catches fire it's right there.

got em on both pillars

Well that's better than 2 chrome ones on your "A pillars".

I mounted mine on the side of the drivers seat bracket above the floorboard. It's solid and within easy reach. You just gotta be carefull where you drill through and make sure you get the screws into metal and not just the vinyl cladding. On long trips I usually have maps or misc items on the floorboard so I didn't want it to get covered with crap. I originally had mine in the popular rear cargo area, but deemed it to remote to reach in an emergengy. I would advise to get the biggest one you can deal with, better to have it and not need it than need it and not have it.

Sorry no pics but I have mine mounted horizontally where the rear doors would be if I had a 4 door.

Look at IntrepidXJ's pic, I mounted it just like his flashlight but forward, right behind the B pillars. Can easily be reached when outside the vehicle, and can be reached with some twisting, while seated in the front.

I have a 2 door so this may or may not help those with 4 doors.

I have the same question. On my '92 it fit fine between the drivers seat and the door, but on my '98 there's no room there. I barely slip a D cell flashlight in this location now. Jeff

I wanna be there when u have a underhood fire and pop the hood to grab your extinguisher :D

What would be cool is one of those halon systems that drag/race cars use. Hit a button on the dash and it dumps 5 gallons of halon in your engine bay. Damn that is sweet.

Edit: Oh yeah, I mounted two 2.5lb halotron extinguishers between the seat/door on each side like mentioned above. I highly recommend halotron for anyone that has yet to purchase a fire extinguisher for their rig. I am a firefighter and can tell you that halotron will do its job and leave no battle scars. That's more than I can say for the dry chem extinguishers out there, ever seen that baked to an engine bay?

Question

What exactly do you guys mean by sill? I'd really like to see a picture if someone has one.

Thanks,
Robert

Heres a pic of mine on the pass side between the seat and the sill. I have the same on the drivers side. (sorry the pic is kinda crappy, its taken with my palm pilot and it was dark outside)

Thanks. I thought that you guys might be referring to the vertical piece between the front and rear doors and that wasn't making any sense! :P

in my '01 there is definitely not room between the seat and door sill...

so i figured i'd kill two birds w/ one stone-- voila, instant foot rest! (which was previously my number one complaint).

i can reach down and grab while seated (seemed like mounting in the rear wasn't too practical for an emergency situation).

Hey, I was thinking about this darn Extinguisher mount problem and think I may have found a spot in my '98! I haven't figured out the mount yet , but the unit I have is the same as in the top photo and it looks like it will fit UNDER the drivers seat! I need to come up with a snug fitting tube type thing that the extinguisher will push into and not fall out when nosing down a steep drop, but will still allow the unit to be pulled free easily (towards the pedals.) Apparently there was some electronic thing mounted under the seat at some time that got moved because of a service recall, and now there are four studs sitting under there that can be used for bolting a mount to. Any body got suggestions for a snug fitting mount...similar to a can cooler type doohicky? :) I can't use the supplied strap mount because I wouldn't be able to reach that far under the seat easily. Jeff

The newest one between the drivers seat and the sill. The next oldest under the rear seat, the oldest inside the spare (under the cover)with my jumper cables and tow straps.
Nothing worse than running out of powder before the fires out, unless it´s squeezing the handle and nothing comes out. Been there done that.

Good god people! Please let this thread rest. Next it'll be Remi asking what double edged wipers and fuzzy dice you're running........ JK :D

I sure do like the bottle mounted on the floor. What happens when it comes loose & rolls under your brake pedal? And dont give me that "it'll never come loose" BS, cause that'll just jinx you. I wouldn't drive Lion's Back with that freakin thing down there...........
