When you buy new tabs...

So this is something that just hit me, and I'm curious since I just dropped $100 on a new plate and tabs (A "Share the Road" plate). When you buy tabs in November, shouldn't you recieve a tab for the month of November?

I bought tabs last week and got tabs for October...and if this isn't right, I'd like to get my moneys worth out of the tabs.

Any thoughts?

Was your vehicle originally registered in October? Here in California no matter what month you register it is always tied to that original month. The only way I'm aware of getting a different month is if the vehicle's registration has lapsed long enough that it fell out of the system, in that case you also have to take the vehicle down there and do a VIN verification (which I have to do to my '66 Mustang when I get it rolling).

In Indiana, I believe your renewal date depends entirely on your last name- I've always been a May renewal, regardless of when I bought new plates, or registered a vehicle. I'd just assumed it worked that way everywhere.

Yeah that is how the do it. I got an extra 2 months last year when they changed it over.

Hmm well I did register the vehicle awhile ago, but I actually think I did it in September...MAYBE the beginning of October? Darn, I was hoping I'd get to sqweeze a few more of my dollars by waiting to get tabs till I was done with the rig, guess not.

I thought since I was getting a new plate I'd get tabs for the current months...oh well. Especially considering it was an expensive plate...haha.

Varies state to state. AZ goes by the original date of registration, OH goes by your birthday. Both states back date to the prior registration date, so waiting an extra month doesn't net you anything.

Yeah the tabs on my rig when I bought it (in September) were for October. But again, I was hoping getting a new plater and newly registering the car in my name would benefit me...guess not.

in OR also watch the date of it cuse it could exp. on the the 23 or something insted of the 1st or last day of the month
Exactly. if your tags say 01-09 that does NOT mean you are legel untill the last day of January.. it means you are legel untill the date on your registration!
