What's the longest w/out sleep?

Ive done about 34 hours or so with no sleep. I work nights and try to stay up after getting off work on the weekend so I can hang out with my daughter more. Doesnt always work tho and I end up passing out on the couch or something.:P

I went about 52-53 hours about 5 years ago (ain't insomnia great). Then I slept for about 18 hours when I finally did fall asleep.

Please don't make going long periods without sleep to be something to be proud of. It can seriously impair judgement. My sister, who suffered all her life from bipolar disorder, died last year after going 2+ days without sleep. Her judgment was impaired - and that, in addition to her bipolar disorder led her to do something that led to her accidental death. Any person in a normal state of mind would never of have done what she did. I fully believe that it was triggered by the long period of no sleep.

Never said I was proud of it. I have had bouts of insomnia all my life, and it sucks horribly. You miss out on alot.

hmmm
sorry. Don't mean to jump on anyone in paticular.
It's just a sore spot on my heart right now. :tear:

71 hours in college, last week of classes, finishing up a compiler project.

I think 36 is the longest I've ever had to stay awake. Installing an exhibit at a visitors center with a previous bosses really screwed schedule. Even the head of the company was slapping graphics on the wall at 3 am. I crashed hard after that and I was ten years younger.

These days I try to schedule my guys no longer than 10 hours on. After that you tend to make mistakes that cost $ or fingers.

dumbest thing i ever did was not go to sleep one night, stay up all day, drink all night, wait (still awake mind you) sober up the next morning, and try to drive home 45 mins sometime later on mid-morning. cost me a lot in pride, legal costs, time, headache, and the most valuable (yet worthless) vechicle i ever owned.

that said on long drives the only thing that keeps me awake and attentive are sunflower seeds or tea tree australian chewing sticks.

My longest had to be a number of years ago when the company I worked for HAD to get a project finished for an important client. 4th of July was on Monday that year. I got up at the usual time (around 6:30) on Friday and went to work. Went home at about 4:00 a.m. on Tuesday.

About 94 hours straight. Never again.

Damn Eagle - you must have been pretty close to "sleep psychosis" at that point. Had you started to hallucinate?

I've been to about that point - I think my longest was a duty stretch where I was off and running for something like 90-100 hours or so, and I was almost to the point of walking into walls by the time it was over. I slept for 22 hours, and "relieved" myself for about 10 minutes when I got up.

Longest as a civilian was the "Grand Slam" move - when we moved Adobe from Mountain View to San Jose... In 10 straight days of working, I spent two hours offsite (mostly to pick up clothes, soap, and a towel) and I slept about four hours in 10-15 minutes catnaps. Took three days off - mostly to sleep and eat - afterwards. At least I got overtime for that (wicked cheque - my base then was $22 per hour, and I was into double time on Tuesday!)

Damn I'm impressed with eagle. Ive done 51 hours when I went to basic traing fro the air force. I was up for 24 before I left then flew to Texas then was kept up all night and didn't get to sleep untill about 9pm that night. about a yearago i did 36 withc include driving from basical DC to NYC working about 5 hours then driving home to pick up fresh helpers then to richmond and working 11 hours on the job there and when i got home i was to tired to sleep so i was up till past midnight. The sad part was i was still working circles around my fresh helpers it picked up that morning. officaly it was 27 hours on the clock stright the longest of any one in the company. but those days suck to no end and aern't worth the risk when you look at it.

I remember pulling a whole weekend. Got up Friday morning normal time, went to work that evening and finished work early Monday. I don't remember driving home at all. That was the scary part.

AGREED!

Very scary indeed. :speepin: :scared:

I did close to 60 hrs.

Was working on putting together a catolog for a client and time was running out fast. :wow:

My printing rep called just before I left the studio on the third day to get some specs on the job. He must have thought I was high, I could barely speak, and I was'nt making any sense at on, ...I mean, at all. You get to..to the... point where ....you..you're like the.....aahhh...the..ahhh...living dead. And the...whole time you, ..you're know... that he think all most youa....b...b...be idiot total,...total idiot. :dunce:

I was fortunate to get a ride home that day, I was so lethargic, probably wouldn't have made the 15 minute drive.

That was too many years ago, I would never do that to myself again. If I could even handle it. :)

48 hours, Labor day weekend, started in the Hamptons, then went to Atlantic City and ended up back in the Hamptons. Slept for about 24 hours after that...week was kind of a blur, but man did we have fun.

Seven years ago was the last time I spent a few days traveling without sleep.

Work all day before a three hour trip to the airport in LA. I got on a plane headed south and it landed in Mexico City after midnight, just long enough to hit the Duty Free and head further south to Santiago. 8 AM Landing in Santiago and meetings all day, followed by a late afternoon flight over the Andes (beautiful) and Argentina to SanPalo. Another dash into Duty Free in SanPalo before heading to London on the red eye. Landed in London in the late AM and spent the day & night trying to get from Heathrow to Covent Garden via the trains trying to complete business (I think, I was worthless by then between jet lag and raw time spent awake).

Ten years earlier on a trip I feel asleep standing up on a city bus while headed to the prison camp museum at Dakow for some R&R time (during another multi-day work/play travel episode). There is a point where your body just does not care what your plans are, and it shuts down. Keeping sharp is only reflex after the body shuts down (and learning to take catnaps is golden).

I don't hate sitting on airplanes, but I probably should since I cannot sleep when flying.

Normally I am worthless after 6PM. Getting no sleep is bad for your well being. I admire those who can charge for multiple days and keep sharp.
