whats needed to start with

I'm looking at building a jeep speed xj and was needing a good start point like what should i be looking for in a donor vehicle i have limited funds and what a good competitive rig. I'm a welder by trade and i have done some dirt circle track racing with my dad and have decided its just not for me and want to do some desert racing. if anyone has any suggestions please let me know

you can but sit down with a pencil and actually add up costs and see how far you get.

Dont forget to add the cost of wireing that nice gps and plumbing a fuel cell.
