'91 MJ short bed, 4x4, 4.0 HO/Auto, bucket seats. 200K miles, but a super straight, rust free body, very nice bed, runs good, just needs a transmission (bad flex plate and junk converter bearing/pump)

I paid $200 For this '90 MJ.The owner couldn't get it to pass emissions and was convinced that the engine needed to rebuilt/replaced.It had new paint, new tires, 4.0L, 5 speed, 4x4, bucket seats.

I let it sit for 6 months until our emissions testing went away then I removed the topper (sold it for $50) and running boards, installed a new Optima red-top,did an oil change and tune-up and threw some old wheels on it (w/ the new tires that came with it) I had sitting aroud. At this point I was into it for a total of $500 and a set of wheels.

The thing ran and drove great the only real problem was oil blow-by (piston rings) into the air filter. Drove it to work for a few months then sold it for $2800 which financed a front locker, chro-mo front shafts and superjoints for my XJ, and 8 days in Moab + gave the wife some $$ to pay bills.

I kind of wish I kept the thing but I just didn't need it at the time.

Paid 800 (well, 400 out of pocket, owner owed me 400 as my cut of a weekend job we'd done a while back) for my rotbox MJ... that thing has hauled my ass places I never expected it to get to, nevermind survive and come back.

Got my 98 for a grand off a guy on here that I know, no rust, came with a bunch of spare parts, I think I have 1400 into it now and it's nearly as good as new.

Nowhere near as good as some of you guys, but I think I'm doing pretty OK.

i bought one a 94 or 95 for 100 bucks ran good little rust, the only problem was the door hinge was ripped from the sheet metal

i didnt fix anything on it and sold it for 900 3 or 4 weeks later

Bought a '93 (I forget the model) last year for $200. The idea was that it was going to be the Winter beater to keep the salt off of my 2000, and it mostly ran and drove OK, but needed more in tyres than I wanted to put into it and at some point in its life had lived in snow country so the floors all the way back were seriously rotten. Local guy offered me $500 for it on the street ten days after I'd picked it up; he needed the drivetrain and some interior bits to keep his '95 going.

Best damn Jeep I've ever owned simply because it's the only one that gave me money instead of eating it :D

dang 12k for a cherokee! What did they sell for new? like 19k? They sure depreciate fast!

Back in '98, we were looking at new XJs at the dealer, and they had two identical white Classics, both stickered over $26k! One was a demo, 6k miles, offered for $20k, other was undriven, for $21k. Good deals both, but we ended up with a ZJ, stickering for $35k, for $25k! Prolly shoulda got one of the XJs, though, as we'd probably still have it!
I have the window sticker for my lightly-optioned '96 Country, over $23k new. Paid $4k four years ago, with 104K on the clock. Too much, but it was nice, and I was in a hurry (January in NorthEast PA), and the sky was starting to get cloudy.....
As far as depreciating in a hurry, they're only cheap and plentiful when you DON'T need one!

Wow man, thinking about paying 35 grand for a ZJ blows my mind!

Just picked up my 97 sport last week with 103k on the clock for $1500 and drove it an hour home. Only issue is the fuel gauge keeps going from where it is supposed to be to empty and back again when you hit a bump. And even only has a couple tiny surface rust spots in MN!

paid 370 for my 89 4.0/aw4/231 with 155k on the clock and 24k on a rebuild. needed a tune up, grounds re-done, floors and tires. ive got about 900 into it right now and im about to sell it for that......
