Just set up a motion sensor light.

If there wasn't one there when he did it before, if he comes back it will startle him at least.

Yeah, im not looking to kill him or maim him. I guess. Haha

Where did you find the law stuff? Id like to use my new 20" Barrel Turkey Mossberg 500 to tell him how I feel. I wouldnt shoot anyone, just to make someone really listen to what I have to say. But I really dont want to goto jail over this.

Didnt think of the deer cameras. Might go pick one up if I can find one cheap enough.

Even brandishing a weapon can get you in trouble!

What's the thief gonna do, go to the cops and say "I was in the middle of stealing gas from his bike while trespassing on his private property and that asshat pointed a gun at me! Arrest his ass!"?

To the op... my bike has a locking gas cap. If mine has one, I'm sure one can be had for yours too.

well said, you're eather a badassmofo, or you're not a badassmofo, 1 XXXX of that 12gauge is the kinda thing to turn a theif straight.

These sort of things are fun to imagine what you *should do* but in reality most everything mentioned here can turn around on you fast. Lets say you camp out and spray the guy with paintballs, ok now you have some random criminal that knows where you live and pissed at you. Next time stealing gas will be the least of your worries when your home is on fire or your vehicles are vandalized. Simple deterring him would be better, motion sensor lights or something just to run them off.

I say this because I have a family member going through something similar. A simple argument with a stranger turned into the person breaking into their home and setting it on fire.

I am not saying bow down to criminals but at the same time pick your battles.

it's not a 'criminal', it's some faggot theif stealing gas, the culprit probably cant even buy alcohol. if you're scared, thats fine, let them steal YOUR gas unchecked!

shit like this is why this country is going downhill, and i dont mean the kid stealing gas.

I never said what I would do or not do, just saying there is something to think about when you plan to shoot someone with paintballs.

As I also mentioned, my family member had an argument with someone in the neighborhood and his house burned down as a result. You don't know what people are capable of, respond accordingly.

It's easy to be an internet tuff guy anyways...

Hmm, wonder why nobody mentioned a locking gas cap?
Oh wait...

If you lock your gas in the bike, and you lock your bike to a stationary object, then you won't have a problem. No need for boring stakeouts, $300 wildlife cameras, or any of that other crap.

That works great until the thief brings a Philips screwdriver with him and punctures the tank. Ask me how I know about that one.

Option two (depending on the bike) may be to pull the fuel line, stick a piece of tubing over it, and open the petcock if necessary. Same end result, and a lot more effective if you're trying to be quiet about it.

One thing that bothers me here is that the thief got a lousy three gallons of fuel. Granted, gas isn't exactly cheap these days, but the fact that that's all he took leads me to believe that it's someone in the immediate area. Think about it - anyone who would steal that small of an amount of fuel is likely accustomed to thinking in small terms, and would likely walk over to get it (in order to maximise their haul) rather than risk wasting some of it by driving over and back.

Here's my thinking: the surveillance idea has merit. Fill the bike and park it in an accessible part of the driveway. Put a camera on it, making sure that the bike's licence plate is on camera. Set up a second camera covering the approaches to the driveway as well as potential places that someone may park in just to be on the safe side. If you can swing it, light everything up like Christmas when the thief is right on the bike. Post video to automotive forums for results.

Being lazy, however, I'd take the 12-gauge and some stuff for him to trip over approach.

Alright, I bought a motorcycle this summer. I leave it outside (no other option) behind my house, steering locked, chained to the nearby tree. One night I left it out in the driveway and came up with an empty gastank. Someone actually had the drive to steal a whopping 3 gallons of gas. Luckily I had locked the steering stem so they couldnt roll it. The XJ was in the way so it couldnt be loaded at least.

I want to catch this guy, neighbors have reported similar things coming up missing. Since its all small things, police dont seem to care.

Any ideas? No way I can stay up for a stakeout. I want to bait it, leave it out, hell even through a gascan out to make it easier. But I need to have some way for an alarm to go off when the bike is touched. That only I can hear.

Any ideas?
Sabotage. "Accidentally" leave a gas can outside, like right up against the house. Put something in it that would kill his engine. Look for the neighbor with a dead car/bike/whatever. If multiple neighbors are having small stuff coming up missing, it's someone in the neighborhood doing it.

This thread needs to be closed/ deleted.

OP Maybe you can re-post in your chapter and not have the same idiotic responses leading to your jail time.

Yes actually.

This country is far too litigious and pussified. Exactly that would happen.

Poison some gas with engine killer, leave it outside. Its been said 3-4 times now. No judge is gonna give you time for him using YOUR poisoned gas, especially without proof and assuming he even has the gall to bring you to court for damage caused by stealing and using your property.

Other option, if fireworks are legal in your state - string up a bunch around the general area rigged with electric ignitors to go off while he's xxxxing with the bike. Laugh yourself half to death than post video to youtube.
