what winch do you recommend for use in california?

Im glad that makes me feel better I hate it when people think Im a dick. I probably am but I hate it when I know people think it any way. You guys have a great day I need to go find a cb antenna mount in case my winch fails so i can call for help.

i got one of the fender mounts and put it on the top of the rear hatch. It fits perfect and the hatch still opens perfect. try that.

Yeah I was thinking about that right now as I brush my teeth. The fender mount came with my kit.I am thinking about the roof rack however it will need to fold back for my garage and tree braches

Have you had any problems with bent metal around the mount just ask because mine sees alot of tree braches. I joke now that I will not need to sand my Jeep for its camo paint job in a few years the trees are doing it for me

One thing to point out is those of us stupid enough to run the harder trails rarely ever operate our winches ourselves. Usually a buddy is pulling and hooking up your cable to a winch point, connecting your remote and locking the spool for you all while you teetering on the edge of a rock waterfall holding your brake pedal and crapping your pants.

But that's the fun part right?

It would really suck if your winch let you down!

I can't believe I missed all the fun on this thread.

I paid 200 bucks for a brand new Smittybilt XRC8 winch that a guy in my 4x4 club won during the June Poker Run on the Rubicon. I mounted it on a Tomken removable winch plate that I got at a discount from the Sierra Fest 2010 raffle and plan to stick it in my JCR Stage IV bumper that I ordered during last year's Black Friday sale. It may not be the best winch around, but it was inexpensive and it might save my stuck arse one day. Besides, it reminds me of some pretty cool crap from the past year.

Even though they're not recommended for use in California, I do have a Warn M-8000 sitting on the front of my Jeep and if I were to use my Jeep, I would have no worries about the performance of the Warn.

Just wanted to post up that I am sorry for ruining yor thread. I was told today that I am a post whore you didnt deserve me monoplysing you thread again I'm sorry.

I'm trying to figure out where tardedmoose got the idea that Letterman was mocking his winch. Letterman said he wouldn't run a Mile Marker. Crazymoose seems to be running a Smittybilt. How did Mile Marker get mistaken for Smittybilt?

I run an XRC-10. No problems so far. I've only used it 3 times in the past year and half though. Once to pull a stuck Prius out of some sand. The other two times I worked it pretty good. Pulling a truck up a 2 foot high ledge onto a trail, and pulling a stuck Super Duty on 38s in 2wd out of frame deep mud. I had help from a stock Super Duty on that one, although he was running street tires.

Was it Letterman?
He's got a Prius and doesn't have a winch on it.
He's always getting stuck. :anon:
