It's gonna fold like a taco

ordered some BPE's for the front. One of my shocks is blown.

Exciting day today at the gas pump. Was pumping gas in to the 87 Waggy XJ, heard and felt a thump, 15 seconds of wondering what it was I felt back pressure on the gas handle finally, turned it off, and pulled it back, and it got tossed back at me while gas blew out, 4 feet out of the tank and threw a good gallon of gas on the fuel pump and me.

Still not sure what caused it. I think the vacuum vent and shut off on the pump failed, built pressure in my tank..... made the tank thump as a wall expanded, then reversed and threw gas out of the tank when I pulled the nozzle back. But my tank was only 3/4ths full when it happened.

Never seen anything like it before!!!

I had the gas handle rocket out of the tank, hit pump, and then flop on the ground but that was on a WRX. I standing there watching thinking about the gas pump scene in Zoolander the whole time...

gonna be playing with the front end tomorrow. getting a rotational rattle/squeal from the drivers side that I can hear pretty clearly when I'm up by a wall... maybe needs new pads?

Also seems like the axle is not centered since the track bar issue a couple weeks back. gotta fix that.

ordered the correct BPE's for the front to replace my shocks finally. Probably should do the steering as well.

Replaced steering stabilizer. Jacked up the driver side, spun the wheel, sounds like I'm getting some brake drag. Went to take the wheel off, damn tire shop overtightened the hell out of the wheels... couldn't get them to move by hand or with my HF impact.

Guess Ill be dropping by the tire shop in a few...

Walmart did that once too me, I bend a 1/2" thick tire tool with a 6 ft long cheater pipe trying to get off too! PB blaster and two days later a REAL impact tool got it off.

Got the JKS BPE's

and foiled again. still need to press the stupid ass metal sleeves out of the bushings. I hate not having a garage/workbench

after doing the wheel shake to find my noises, I'm pretty sure the passenger side unit bearing is giving me trouble. Driver side one is a few months old, had meant do to both but got lazy that day. Guess I know what I'm doing after work tomorrow.

I tried burping the cooling system in the Jeep some more. Still slowly gets hotter and hotter when sitting and idling. Don't know what else to do or check. Sigh.

Check for an exhaust leak blowing on the side of the block!!! The donut for sure.

So i went to the jy today, what do i find...

Its the excursion that killed my 90 xj.

Just a little satisfying to know that mine want the only vehicle that died that day

Yup... bearing was toast. Should have seen how much play there was in it.

Thankfully I had a new one on hand. Its installed now. No more groaning in turns, screeching on the highway, and overall the Jeep just feels right now.

Plus I've gotten my unit bearing change time down to under an hour :D

Finally installed the AUSSIE locker in front Diff and added a Rusty's diff skid. We also put a 4.5" lift on a buds JK both went on with no real hassles :). Now to get to Hidden Falls and check them out :)

Rediscovered the differences in the nose piece parts around the head lights between 87-90, and 91-96. Thought I installed an 89 on 89, :( but no joy.

Worked on the blue 89 brakes, and the white 89's Dana 30 U-joints got identified and 5-260x Spicers ordered, $24 ea.

Ordered 100 new wheel nuts, solid ones, chrome, look like OEMs but no cheap skin, these are solid, for 57 cents each on Amazon. :-)

Doing some rear brake work today on the blue 89. One adjuster was seized, may be all it needs. May change the pads while there.

Got my order for 100 new nuts in today! :gag:

Wheel nuts that is, Nice looking, solid, chrome plated, OEM style, for 58 cents each.

The 89, 2WD inspection was delayed by a dead horn. Got a new one....

Spicer U-joints on order for the Dana 30 front axle, for the new to me, 4wd 89 jeep.

Need to replaced the tail cone guts on both the 87 4WD TCase, and 89 AW4 (2 WD) soon.

Next up is a new AC for 01 Saturn SL1.

No rest for the weary.
