What was done to YOUR rig(XJ/MJ) today MECHANICALY????

Their resistance changes with temperature, so they are easy to test, or compare. Resistance versus temp tables are in many old posts here. Boiling water and ice water work well.

Picked up a sensor from OReillys by my work. $17 and it doesn't hurt to swap a sensor out that is as old as the Jeep.

So in 3 years, the Jeep qualifies as an Antique. Sweet.

Ed, does your A/C work?

Still idles like crap, that's what i get for cleaning things... Need to pick up a volt meter

Have you ever done a compression test? Is the idle smooth, and just wanders up and down, or does it have a miss too?

Everything was awesome ran dead even at 750 till i cleaned the idle control, now sometimes it idles high, sometimes low, almost like it overcompensates. And today it developed a shudder at regular idle rpms almost like a misfire but not as rough but still runs like a raped ape if you put you're foot down. No real loss of power. My buddy is picking up a compression tester soon, i will check it then

First off, check the vacuum line from the throttle body to the MAP sensor, it may be loose. Also check the vacuum hose at the fuel pressure regulator, see if it smells like gas, from a leaking regulator.

Have you checked the O2 sensor completely? I forgot what all you did so far????

Oh, and some advise, if it ain't broke don't clean it, LOL!

Does NOT sound like a compression issue at all.

Ya third jeep you'd think I'd have learned my lesson by now..
As for the o2, i have a small exhaust leak from what looks to be a bad exhaust donut or (cross my fingers) possibly a cracked header, hoping for the first option on that. I'm fairly certain that is slowly trading the o2 if its still working at all. Interestingly enough there is still an open recall on my o2 sensor

Yep. Dang well too.

New temperature sensor is in. I guess taking out the old one burped the system pretty well too. Temp barely gets a little over 210 and stays there now.

Is the Efan coming on with the ac?

If you messed with the TPS at all, they need to be calibrated.

Made sure not to mess with that can of worms lol
Do you think the port on the back of the valve cover being clogged could affect it?

I know that varying the back port orifice size changes the idle speed, so yes!!!! Also crankcase leaks at the valve cover can screw with the CCV ventilation, and if that back line is clogged it pukes oil out the valve cover front side and onto the nice new air filters, LOL!!!! It can also cause crankshaft seal leaks IMHO by pressurizing the crank case

That long tiny little tube can get clogged, restricted, too. And frankly the older valve covers have issues on the inside as well, a sort of valve plate or something and a drop tube that really needs a breather hole added to the side to keep it from blowing oil!!!

Make sure the bottom half of the old groments do not drop crumbling junk loose as you pull them out!!!

I managed to fix the rear grommet, seems to idle better for the moment going to replace it soon anyway though. The front on the other hand is garbage and i can't seem to find a good replacement for it, the only way i have found to get it so far is to replace the entire front portion of the vac harnessbably will soon) but that's not really in the cards atm
