What to do with all this wind?

It's Captain Crazy windy up here today. We couldn't even sleep last night b/c it was howling so bad. Heather has never flown a kite so it seemed like a good idea to go get some of these bad boys:

This is mine. His name is....err...was....Fantasmo Gordo.

Because 500 feet of string is never enough...this roll has been highly modified. You're lookin' at 1000 feet of string right here.

I did have a minor situation during the modification process.

It is very hard to get a picture of a kite when the wind is blowing a million miles an hour. This is the only one I got.

The Gordo was destroyed after several nose busting dives. The other one (Terror Saurus) lasted a long time under the guidance of the roookie. It finally snapped the line and it was GONE. It might be up in Rampart Reservoir. Best $3 I ever spent.

I live accross the street from this park so I just sit on the porch drink beer and watch them kinds and this guy fly their setups. This guy 30s to 40s had a kite that looks like the red baron air plain pretty cool he can control it and do some really cool stuff with it. Me I just watch and drink the beer. I have a feeling I'd jet that puppy right into the ground.

Hey River, we used to get that exact kite design back when I was a kid (about 10 yrs ago :spin1: ) and we would tape razorblades to the edges and kite fight each other and the first one to cut the others string won!:cheers:

I haven't flown a kite since I was a kid and I haven't laughed that hard in a long time. I remember Fantasmo Gordo from back in the day but the one I was looking for was the Black Cat. That one had the 2 crazy eye stickers that you put on the all black kite. I'm thinking about walking up to the Ben Franklin for round 2.

I used to use about 1200 yds. of 40 lb. test fishing line to fly my kite.Did the razor blade dog fights also.MMMM....... simpler times.
