What tire should I run?

i've got interco trxxus on mine. they work great. had em out in snow, mud, and dirt in the summer. never had an issue.

they and the wheels are for sale too.

you have PM.

XJEEPER, what lift and size tires are those? I'm definitely considering the Bighorns now.

I saw the firestone MTs on an S-10 the other day. They look pretty good and those reviews are great. My boss was telling me he didn't like Cooper or General brand tires as he's had bad experiences with them in the past. He seems to have ran almost every tire at some point, from his BFG ATs right now to MT/Rs to Super swampers...and everything in between. Gonna look up some reviews for the Bighorns and price them out.

X2 on the Bighorns. I looked all over for the best deal on tires and read alot reviews. Everyone loves them, theyre not too loud and didnt take much weight at all to balance them. I got 4 on EBay for $640 shipped, mine are 16'' so if youre running 15" wheels they may be cheaper...

We have the Dick Cepek F/C II's on our wrangler, in the 33 flavor. Great tire, highly recommended. They really excel in the rain compared to the old BFG AT's we had on the wrangler.

Also, I have heard really good reviews on the Treadwright Ultra Grip-2. Four Wheeler magazine did a test on them in the snow compared to Treadwright's regular M/T, and the tires performed quite a bit better. The crushed walnut shells embedded in the rubber are more than just a sales gimmick

Not to start something here, but if retreads were so bad why do airplanes and 18 wheelers use them? They had a bad rap back in the 90's because they had a really bad habit of separating but they have come a long way since then. I wouldn't knock them until you try them (and I mean the new Treadwrights)

i see almost 2000 tires a week...new, used, blown apart, and really nice ones....
yes the treadrights are a BETTER type of retread...they do a good job....but i have had a few come back from separating....granted i work in an area that has some bad driving conditions...
but i work with c-dot, split rims, skid loader tires and full on tractor tires....and aside from moron drivers, retreads are the biggest headache...
as tires get worn down and older most of them get softer and the cracass of the tire begins to weaken....when retreaded it stiffens up due to new rubber on the outside but the integrity of the tire is nothing like a NEW tire....and if its a tire that is gonna be abused why would you short yourself?....:dunno:
just my .02....every experience is different and i more than respect your opinion...just throwing mine out there as well:cheers:

I vote BFG ATs. They work great except in deep mud, and have a good rep for handle snow&ice well.

I have personal experience with the BFG AT, Firestone Destination AT and the Trxxus.

BFG has always been a good wearing tire and solid traction on wet/ice for me but not great in mud.

Firestone AT may be a little better in the mud than the BFG with their tread pattern - I'm considering the Destination MT for my next set now.

Trxxus seems like a good wearing all around tire and I was quite impressed with them on icy/snow covered roads. I'm considering a set for DD now.

I have to run the Firestone Destination MT's on my work truck, stupid company policies.... Anyway, on a 3/4 ton utility truck they really suck, you even think about touching the white line and they will pull you off the road and they are louder than the IROKs I run on my XJ.

I have also had trouble with the tread "peeling" off exposing the bands, that was on a 3/4 ton regular bed. Another guy I work with put Hankooks on his and they ride great, don't pull, and have lasted alot longer, on a 1 ton utility truck with alot more tools than me.

Also the BFG KM2s are very nice DD and trail tires and pretty quiet.

I can back that up, I run them in a 35 as a DD GREAT tire! I used to run the old MTR and loved em, but i've put these in their paces in snow and mud so far and they've done things i didn't think they'd do. As in get me out of the sloppyest mud rut i've ever been in. Long story short i was goin along a nice path in 2wd next thing i know i'm up to my axles in thick nasty mud totally stopped. But they got me out! pictures.... i know i have some...

Firestone Destination MT's. Period.
They're not very noisy, they're great in the mud, sticky on the rocks, good in the snow, and they wear like steel. Most people overlook em cause they don't say "BFG" or "Goodyear" on them. I'd recommend them to anybody and I'll definitely be replacing them with another set when its time, in the 35" flavor.
Oh, and they look nice and aggressive too.
Mine are 33s, but they have em in 31s. Here's few pics of them... and yes, I DD mine @ about 75 miles a day, plus trails almost every weekend.

Few things I forgot to add...
First of all they're studdable. You can see the holes in that first shot.
They're also 3-ply and have a really thick bead.
I like to run the tougher trails right around 12-13 psi, and I street em at 28, but they perform well on the trail even at street pressure... hell, I ran a particularly rocky one today at 28 cause I didn't want to stop at a gas station to air up afterwards and they were great.
And cause they don't say BFG on em or anything like that they're a bit cheaper. Oh, and if you buy em new, Firestone has this thing they call Road Hazard or something like that... its like $25/tire, and basically if you pop it somehow they'll replace it for free. Just don't tell em if you did something out of the ordinary to it (in my case I drove over a few totaled cars and the friggin sheet metal slashed one up... told the guys I "ran over something")

Get em... they're worth it.

Hey are those Bighorns for sale? You're in PA so not to much of a drive for the right price...:)

I believe I've narrowed it down to the Destination MTs and the Bighorns. For the price, they are both a good deal. No tire store around here sells bighorns that I am aware of.

Which ever tire you choose get them at discount tire! They will beat any price you can find by 5% (even online prices, just have to add shipping price) and they also have that road hazard thing where they'll replace your tire if something happens like $30 a tire i think. Free balancing and rotation if you ever need it too. I'll only buy from them cause they're the best.

Nope they are on Bandit455's TJ now :sunshine:

Buy them from Mack's Tire Bin on ebay. It is 100$ cheaper than buying them from a store, even after shipping. He only sells Maxxis I believe. They come in 4's
