what the hell is this ball bearing?

I am just about done putting together my stroker and it was built off a renix block and I found this marble sized steel ball at the bottom of my parts bin.....then I remember durring disasembly (6 months ago) it had fell out of the engine.....

Does any one know what this is? my guess is a check ball of some sort.

I don't know of any place in the engine that there would be a ball bearing.

Judging by the deposits on the muffler, it looks like you didn't change the muffler lubrication fluid enough. That can cause a these sort of problems.

In all seriosness, the only places I can think of is the transmission or maybe the hub? Im not sure how XJ hubs are designed.
