What specs for alignment

I have a 2001 XJ lifted 3.5"

I just put on a new tie rod (ZJ) and tie rod end, as well as a tie rod end at the pitman arm.

This Jeep has lifetime alignment at Firestone, so I am planning to take it there to get it dialed in.

The tech that I always deal with said they would put it back to as near factory specs as they could with the lift on it.

Is there another set of specs I should request? I am running street tires on it now. My MTs are in the garage and not for daily use.

Thanks!

The won't touch camber/caster, all they will set is toe.

To change camber you would have to install adjustable ball joints.

To change caster you have a few options: adjustable ball joints; adjustable UCA and/or LCA; shimming the unibody LCA mounts.

SPECIFICATIONS

NOTE: All alignment specifications are in degrees.

Mr. Peters...where did you get those specs? Just curious!

Camber they won't do anything with, but if your D30 isnb't bent the lift does not affect camber.

Caster they should attempt to put back to factory specs, and they should be able to adjust it using the cammed bolts at the lower control arms.

Early XJ's used shims behind the mount, newer xj's use cam bolts in the LCA and they can be turned to move the LCA forward or backwards in the mount. Of course this is all providing that those bolts didn't get swapped with regular hardware during the lift install. The cam adjst bolts are expensive, something like $60 a pop from the dealer. might be able to get them aftermarket. I don't know, my junk is ancient and has shims at the LCA mount.
My junk is lifted 4-4.5 inches in the front and has the caster set at 5.5*. Return to center on the wheel is good and it doesn't wander, even with bias ply swampers.

I think you have your XJs and TJs mixed up. XJs use shims, at the rear of the frame-side LCA mount, to adjust caster.
TJs use a cam bolt to move the LCA forward or rearward.

Good lord, wtf.

I always figured the cam bolts were ZJ and TJ only. I have never seen them on a WJ or XJ.

My bet - they are only on low pinion equipped XJs, since the low pinion XJ d30 is the same as a low pinion TJ d30. So they should be very late 99 through 01 only.

Can anyone prove this wrong?

(the axle could also have been swapped in at a later point, as we all know, no one EVER swaps parts around between different models and years of jeep... :shhh:)

a cherokee with cam bolts.

I am mistaken that they are LCA, looks like upper.

I know they exist because they were replaced on my grandmothers 01 when she had new tires and an alignment done and the shop said they were seized.
That is a Grand Cherokee axle. It has the tab for the cam to ride on. XJ axles do not have them.
The photo is from a Grand Cherokee forum.

I have a 01 XJ and there isn't a cam bolt (or tab) on it or any other XJ axle I have ever looked at. Too bad, it would make setting the caster and pinion angle, on an XJ a lot faster.
All the auto parts sites I have checked only show the cam bolt used on TJ and WJs.

X2...I've had a 99 and now a 98...neither had cam bolts..trust me, I've looked!!! Even the Hunter Engineering alignment guy was sure they came that way, then after he "researched" found that it was in fact supposed to use shims.

1 - 2001 and 2 - 2000 XJ's in my local jeep club. No cam bolts on any XJ's.

There are no cam bolts on xj's. My 01 does not have one and my buddy's doesn't either. Never seen one with cams for as long as I can remember. My TJ did have one though.

Well I'm fairly certain that charlotte has not had the front axle replaced.

I will have to actually get under there and look.

If the tire place charged her $60 a piece for a regular UCA bolt I might flip out. Here's is a LP D30 I know that much. Honestly I've not looked closely at it as she's a bit "funny" about taking it to a shop vs just letting me fix it.

She recently paid the dealer $300 to replace the leaking pinion seal on the 8.25, I told her I could take care of it and it would be like $25 for a seal and new gear oil, but she took it in anyway.
