what spark plug are you running?

It has been 5 years and who knows how many miles since I have replaced my spark plugs so I figured it couldn't hurt to swap them for some new ones. I am currently running Champion 4412 truck plugs but I have seen they have discontinued that plug.

So I am wondering what you guys are running and what would recommend? My cousin has a 2000 and we just dropped in some NGK plugs in it as I have seen recommended here a lot for the distributor less Jeeps. They seemed like nice plugs and I was thinking they might be good on the distributor Jeeps like my 97.

Oh I also have the firepower ignition coil that can run a larger gap on the plugs. What would increasing the gap over the .035 do for me?

Cheap Champions seem to work the best with the Renix rigs. Too bad they quit making the truck plugs

What plugs would you go with (I have a Renix)?

I'm running NGK's in my RENIX. I would guess they are at least a year old or older and I'm getting really good mileage still. I run NGK in everything including my lawn equipment.

if its not ngk its junk... jeeps like the regular flavor, no special super platinum bla bla. I run ngk's in 2 strokes, 4 strokes, lawnmowers, cars, jet skis, anything that makes gasoline go boom to move.

Thanks for all the replies guys! I am thinking I will probably just throw a set of the NGKs since they seem like good plugs. I wish I could just get another set of the champion 4412 truck plugs because they have been great. I tried the platinum crap back when I was younger and didn't know any better haha I even tried autolite irridiums which weren't bad but they didn't give me anything extra over anything else so I didn't see any reason to spend the extra money on those again. Jeeps just really seem to love regular standard Copper plugs.

I have a performance firepower coil that is supposed to let me run a larger gap on the plugs but I don't know why I would. What would be the reason and benefits of running a larger gap on the plugs?

I have the same coil/cap/wires on all 4 of my XJ's. I run the stock gap and NGK V-power plugs

General rule of thumb i've always followed on 4.0L Jeeps

Distributor set up - Champion Coppers
Coil Pack - NGK.

Been running Champion Coppers in mine for ever and have no complaints. Can't beat the price either at approx $2 a plug. Fixed several older XJ's with Champions that had super double ultra platinum's installed and ran like crap.

on my last set of 4412's in the 2.5L low output and have run Delco in the Renix since day one. It seems that both sets of plugs are discontinued where I work-- guess I'm gonna have to find a new source. It's a sad day when I run an Auto Parts Store and can't even sell me my own plugs!

Decided to pick up some plugs to toss in this weekend...and learned Advance no longer sells Champion....at all. Debating on what plug I want to go with instead.

I dunno what prompted the decision to stop selling them-- probably a pissing contest between some senior buyer who got too big for his britches and a hard nosed supplier that didn't give him enough "discount" on them.

They are still available as a factory direct order, but the shipping time on them is usually a deal breaker. I have taken it upon myself to order 36 Champions for our 4.0L to have on hand, and just continue to replenish the stock with the ones we "order" for those who need 'em-- you just went to the wrong store:eeks1:

The store up the road can't even get them FDO. Was up there this morning buying gear oil and asked about it again.

I've not been able to get the 4412 from any source in about 2 years-- I'm almost certain they were discontinued (although Champion has never told me that-- they just don't show availability on them ever)

The standard 412 copper core plug (RC9YC) is what I think Tim was talking about. If not, than I'm checking on a different plug than he was.

Always just ran plain jane Champions. Too bad Advance has pulled the Champion product line from all of their stores. :twak:

Very interesting, never heard that before. My current 01 is the first coil rail XJ I've had, the other 5-6 were all wire. I gotta look into this.
