windstars are definetly junk, mom has one, frt suspention needs major work to pass inspection everyyear

Don't care for AWD, or towing... I just need a DD thats gets mileage..

Honda Odyssey with the 4 cyl V-Tec. Friends wife has one, thinks she get 16-18mpg city and 25+ hwy. Not that slow either, surprises some people.

We have a 99 Grand Caravan... Its a pretty damn nice van.... On regular gas(E-10) it get 18-19mpg in town, and 23-25 on the highway. We run it on E-85. 16 in town, 19-20 on the hiway

Stay away from the Fords & Mopars.

I had an 89 Caravan 2.5 TURBO with a 5 speed. It was the stripped down cargo model, no back side windows or rear seats. Insanely fast and got great mileage.
There are still ones out there driving around. Might be what you are looking for.

No man worth his weight in fecal matter would be caught embalmed driving a mini-van.

I need a DD, one that I can fit in without having to crawl in/out and has head room. Also I carry a lot of shit... And they get decent mileage. so mini-van it is....

I've found a few 90's windstars, voyagers, and astro's. Any reconmendations for those who have owned them.

Yes, it may go pink, and yes this is not a drill.

Zac

...............wait, you're serious???

I had a 93 Voyager with 260k on it when I traided it in for the XJ. I did put a tranny in it but not till 190k. Only when the fuel pump went south did it leave me stranded, and that way my own fult cause i know it was going long before it went. I think I put an Alt and a Water pump on it too. Used/leaked about 3/4 quart of oil between changes. and the only time the Check Engine light came on is when the Alt went.

My opinon is if you want something truck based for some heavier hauling get an Astro. If you want a nice DD that will get ok milage, and cheep get a 94/95 Caravan LE (SWB) with the 3.3ltr. If you need a bit more room go for the same years Town & Country with a 3.8ltr One thing to keep in mind though is a stock XJ will come very close to the mpg that Mopar minivan will as long as you keep your foot out of it. Astro is probably going to be just about the same as.

Vans are much cheaper these days than XJ's. Mainly because of our lil sport here.

why not getting like a subaru wagon or something.

That is my dream vehicle at the moment. But her in NC, especially the mountains, they are worth their weight in gold and sell for it too. I found a few older wagons and Legacy's but a bit pricey for the miles/condition. And can get even more room out of a van I reckon, without a lot more gas.

LOL my Mum has an older windstar and it has been mostly trouble free (just normal junk - brakes & tune-up/emissions crap) It isn't the most awe-inspiring thing to drive, but it gets her all over. I'll ask her the deal and report back.

edit Report is a '95 Windstar with 205,000. Only serious issues have been a broken tie-rod end (mum said that was scary... she hasn't done DW, or thrown a driveshaft on the interstate yet so...) and rust. It's a MA vehicle so I thought rust was the official color? My feedback is it's a wierd cabover deal and coming from the XJ world it freaked me out. After driving it a hundred miles, I'd rather get out & hitchhike.

Astro vans with a 4.3 / 4L60 are reliable as the sunrise too... funky mono-leaf rear and a 10-bolt, but...:dunno:

Mini vans kick ass! To slow and ugly so you won't want to mod it, good mpg, room for all your buddies. On road trips I wish my Vanagon still ran, .........great memories!
