What material is the main shaft in a 231 t-case?

Anyone know what kind of steel they are made of? Is it 1020 or something stronger?

Its certainly something stronger, exactly which alloy the shaft is mafe of i dont know, but its probably a gear alloy.

Its certainly not made of 1020. 1020 is not an ultra high strength alloy, its used mainly as structural steel, plate steel, or piping.

I'm guessing it's probably something similar to a ring gear material like an 8620 chromo but I want to be certain so if anyone knows for sure don't be shy!!

Why do you need to know exactly?
