What is this and why is it clicking at idle?

1996 XJ 4.0 with 170k on it has a repeating clicking/knocking sound coming from the item in the red circle near the window washer reservoir and the firewall just above the A/C expansion valve. Jeep is running fine but hear the click when stopped at idle. You are the winner if you can tell me what this is and why it may be clicking.

Pic doesnt work, but its likely the emmision canister solenoid.

it is the Evap Purge solenoid, it's clicking because that's what it's supposed to do in order to vent fuel vapours into the intake manifold. It's likely just getting noisy due to it's age. If it's annoys you grab another from the junkyard.

Also, make sure the actual solenoid isn't touching anything. If it is that could be transmitting more noise than it should.
