What do you use to take pictures with, pro or amatuer.
Im Taking a volunteer job in Brazil in the jungle. Im looking to buy a good digital camera to take with me. something in the 1000 range.

also anyone in Cali with a high end camera they want to sell lmk

The big problem you have is humidity and mold. I use a Nikon D5000 and it does a good job. You will probably want a Tamron 10-24mm wide zoom along with a good macro lens. A telephoto is nice for wildlife.

I use a Canon XTI. Yeah, it's not the latest and greatest but it's still an SLR and can be had for considerably cheaper than the brand new stuff while still doing great shots. I believe the next gen, T2i, I think, changed to SD cards instead of the (not so) Compact Flash, so that could be a good choice as well. I have a Tamron 18-270 lens that I love. It's wide enough for pretty much anything, and zooms deep enough that I haven't really been found wanting. Much easier than trying to carry and change multiple lenses.

I use an Olympus Sylus Tough, it's not a professional SLR camera or anything, but it is very well made, strong, waterproof, compact, etc. With that kind of budget though, it might be good as a backup camera or something. My only complaint is it uses a specialized battery instead of AA's, so you have to have a regular power source to charge it up.

canon 60D with the 18-135 kit primarily. looking to get a wider lens soon. most DSLRs are fairly water water resistant, the more $$, the better sealed they are.

Still treatin' ya okay?

I use a Samsung TL-350. It's an alright camera but I wouldn't recommend it for an environment like the jungle
I actually sold the XT after I got the Tamron lens. I was running the XT with 18-55 and XTi with 55-250. When I bought the 18-270, I put it on the XTi and sold the rest.

It did serve me pretty well though.
