What did you do to your XJ today

Just got home from running around town. Epic fail on the install on my part. I have no 5/8" drill bit to drill out the knuckles for my steering, good thing I didn't take it all apart yet.

Good luck, I had to buy one to install new studs on my spare-tire carrier. It was $20+ for it....

Still had a little ways to go.

Hard to see but there's about a 1/16" gap between the shaft and straight edge. It was visibly noticeable right when I pulled it out.

I guess that's why I was getting .080" run-out on the axle. I'm really surprised it didn't break considering how much torque it was getting on the undercut ledge on Canopener.

I swapped my spare shaft in (.002" run-out ), and this one now became the new trail spare.

hey i saw you this morning haha just throwin it out there. i was in my grey xj in the chase parking lot haha

Put it on craigslist.......... haha

Just as a possible trade, trying to see what I could get...... Don't really want to get rid of it I guess, just doesn't seem to be getting anywhere towards where I want it to, and the funds just aren't there anymore. I'd rather start with a clean slate one day on a better base.

Although, if this one goes, I'll miss the 4.6l

I thought so, I kind of had enough hook ups to get it done on the cheaper end of the spectrum though.

It was a huge difference over the old '89 4.0, but that also took a crap on me about a week after I originally bought the Jeep. My Xj ran kind of weak since the day I bought it though. I haven't driven an HO 4.0 recently enough to make a direct comparison.

Well, I sealed the roof rack bolts on my 98 cause my cargo carpet was wet.... bought a 3.99 tube of silicone and called it good.

Threw my spare up on my Thule roof rack so I'll have more gear room for a long weekend down in the Bighorn's in WY.

Also working on a sort of modular cargo area system. I'm a furniture/doors/cabinet maker by trade, so we've got lots of scrap plywood floating around. I'll put some pics up if I think it's worthy by the time I'm done. I'm building it around the dimensions of my gear storage units, currently made up of Action Packers, milk crates, and the essential Coleman cooler.

Yesterday I picked up my new rig. :guitar: Drove it home from Lynnwood, then threw my 31's on.

Today I started with swapping the power steering pump bracket. The one on it was broke. Checked and added fluids, then attacked the inside.
I can't stand the smell of tranny fluid, and she reeked of it. I pulled the seats, then the carpet to find rust on the drivers side. So out came the grinder and wire wheel. I don't have to add any sheet metal yet so that's good. I finished off today by spraying an anti rust paint over the floors.

I have to figure out if I killed my battery or if there's a power draw but that will have to wait till tomorrow after I do the brakes..

Details on the new one?

Hopefully it's a little more gremlin free than the last one.

Most of you will bag on me, but I picked up another 85 2.5l for a few reasons. I have been teaching myself to work on my xj and I really didn't feel like I had it down good enough yet, and I have been commuting to Salem, and Eugene for work So the little bit of extra on gas helps.
My plan is to get this guy back in good running condition and leave it as a commuter. When I get back to work full time I will get a decent 4.0. I am stripping down my chopped since most of the parts on it are less than a year old, and putting them on this guy. The cage will become tube bumpers. :)

I will post up pics after I have it painted. I am hoping I will have it tuned up, running good and ready for paint by this weekend. I am laid off and have plenty of time. :)

I didn't do anything TO my XJ... But I'm doing something FOR my XJ...

Starting on the new jeep motor, I'm thinking 4.6 stroker HO block, 7120 head.
Working out what to do about the intake and TB...

Success!

Just waiting for the bearing retainers to show up, and then they'll go on the Jeep. Soooo looking forward to ditching the drums.

rock on, now it's time to get some 1/2 ton stuff up front.

Put my Iron Rock Offroad steering on. Handles great and magically I got the steering wheel perfect and the toe was set at 3/16" in on the first try so I left it that way. I need to go to the store and get new nylock bolts and some red locktite and finish the job by doing a final torque job.
