What did you do to your XJ today

Finally got everything back together. The final parts list was: head gasket, head resurfacing, valve cover gasket, manifold gasket, thermostat housing gasket, radiator, a couple sensors I snapped, and gallons and gallons of coolant. Everything seems to be running fine except the temp never seems to run past 150. Seems kind of odd. I'm going to recheck sensors to make sure they are in properly.

Are you using sensor safe thread sealer?

With all that work, I would expect the thermostat came out as well. Is it sticking or in backward?

Re-torqued all the bolts after the first about hundred miles. Fixed the loud banging when hitting bumps. Turned out to be the new stainless brake lines smacking the frame. Used the old brake line rubber isolators, zip tying them on. Also found the rattle in the rear hitting bumps was due to the hitch bolts loosely hanging from the rear frame rails. Duh! Beat the front inner fender pinch seems over with a BFH. Ready for new shoes so off to the tire shop.

Had to scurry yesterday afternoon to get my bare metal bumper coated in primer and installed. Primer refused to cooperate with the cold temps so I used the big propane torch to persuade into drying. Not my idea of rushing a job. Wanted to wait for warmer weather. Why the rush? Because I scheduled the alignment and tires for today and they needed the bumper weight on to set the alignment properly. So now I have to pull it back off and sand the runs and drips out and give it the top coat. I also had to fab up a license plate bracket to fit over the receiver. The only thing I could find for fitting the receiver tube was a piece of 2" square tube hacked off my motorcycle trailer. I can just scab in a replacement piece later. lol

...But it was worth it. I had to work today so my lovely wife took it in for the appointment. She said the shop guys were going crazy over the Jeep taking turns for test drives. Hmmmmm! Anyway she delivered it to my work, bless her heart. I must say it was the most amazing reveal to watch it pull into the parking space in front of me even under the dim twilight evening.

It drives very nicely with the alignment done and the larger tires. Wife thinks it rides smoother than prelift. I have to agree. Hardly any body roll on cornering and didn't slide on the wet painted lines. No more bone jarring shock waves hitting bumps. Yay!

Would love to post some pics but it just got too dark. I will get them and post later.

Finally put in a new thermostat.

Man I wish I could get my temp gauge to stay in that area. What ° T stat are you running?

I'm thinking I got a bad sending unit for my gauge. Reading 20-30 high.

Scrounged a 4.10 disco (plans for a 44 later down the road) for my 95 and I'm thinking of getting a Detroit hard locker but maybe a soft locker for my 8.8 when I regear. I'm not real sure if I need the slip of a soft locker when I hardly drive it. But I do drive it 100+ miles round trip to wheel so will I really see that much tire where? What do you guys have in your 8.8's I'm not going ARB or Ox non-selectable is my path full case is a must as I have a factory LSD..

Thanx

Worked on the Dirtbound rear Mojave bumper. Pulled the stock bumper off. Enlarged up the D-side frame rail opening. Welded the nut strip together and tack welded the mounting. Hopefully I can get P-side opened and welded tomorrow. Then I have put the stock bumper back on until the rest of the bumper can get fab'd up. I would just leave it off but I still need to DD it for a little while longer. Plus I want to drive up the the meet-n-greet tomorrow. That gas tank is precariously exposed without a bumper.
