What did you do to your XJ today

Did the water pump, serpentine belt and tstat over the weekend. Order got messed up on the 255/70 Grabbers (apparently on backorder nationwide???), Discount Tire gave me a sweet deal on some BFG AT's in 30x9.5x15. Put them on the 15x8 gamblers that I painted a few weeks ago. I know...I need a lift. But so far there is no rub at stock height.

Dam thats a pretty good price and low miles also. I need an intake like that. That motor must be out of a 98 or 99 by looking at the intake and exhaust manifold.
its out of a 93. its the log and runner style intake. if you want the intake and exhaust id be willing to sell... lol i got a 99+ intake and a header on my motor now lol

I will take that intake how much you want for it. I bought one off my buddy Sharkmark in the bay area on the Cherokee he rolled however I go lazy and never finished taking it off so it got scrapped. PM me when you can.

Re: What did you do to your MJ today

I did the dreaded change the valve cover gasket thing today. Changing the gasket wasn't so hard; cleaning all the crap off the valve cover was not fun. Also changed plugs. The old ones had ~ .60 gap. :tear:

Tomorrow will be cap, rotor, wires, and maybe oil. Then I need to drain and fill the radiator. Advise on how to do that ('88) would be appreciated; I know it needs "burped" but don't know how yet.

Jack up the rear end of vehicle or park uphill with nose facing down so temperature sending unit on the back of block is highest point. Remove sending unit and fire up rig allowing coolant to travel. once coolant pours out of that open threaded hole shut off and put your sending unit back on. You should be done.

Thanks!

Speaking of temperature sending unit, I need to change mine out but I'm having a hell of a time getting to it because there is so much stuff in the way. Any tricks to that?

Six-point deep socket with an extension bar. If you take any pictures be sure to include a bucket ...

I had an old weathered axe laying around so I decided to customize! I sanded the handle and blade down. Sharpened the axe head and got it ready for paint. I painted it red to match the XJ for a trail axe. Final touch was to paint the axe head black and put some black grip tape around the bottom part of the handle. It turned out awesome! Now I have to figure out where to mount it.

Ordered the heims and accesorries for my draglink from ruff stuff and replacement heims for eric's. I also started drilling the holes in my unibody and crossmember... thanks Rod!!!!! I decided that there had to be an easier way to drill big holes through the unibody and 3/16" steel then pressing on a drill for 30 minutes plus per side, I guess I'm used to how fast holes drill with a drill press. So I came up with my hillbilly unibody drill press and it worked great.

Also on another note I am going to be able to make the stock tranny mount work.

My goal for the day was to put a stop to the BP oil spill my Jeep had.

-Replaced valve cover gasket
-Replaced oil filter adapter o-rings
-Replaced rear main seal
-Replaced oil pan gasket
-Changed oil
-Changed transfer case fluid (that was a bonus)

Not a bad day. So far no leaks!
Well after actually driving the Jeep, it was apparent I screwed something up big time. In 80 miles of driving I had lost almost 2 quarts of oil. When shut off it would leave a good 6" diameter puddle on the ground. Needless to say it was way worse than before, and I was pissed.

So today I decided to suck it up and deal with it. Bought a new pan gasket, and rear main seal. When I pulled the upper half of the rear main out the outside seal surface was pretty gulled up. I think it caught an edge of the block going in.

I was extra careful with the new one, and used the provided "shoe horn" tool to help ease it in. It's amazing how much quicker and easier things go the second time. I let the Jeep get up to temperature and no leaks. Still a little weary, but I think I got it right this time.

Since I felt good about how that went, I conquered another little project. When I notched my grill for my winch I went a little overboard with the clearance. I picked up another grill from Goblazers_6, and renotched it to fit a little tighter. Looks less hack-jobish.

Genius. I love this man. The part I always hated about installing the frame mounts on customers rigs. Next best thing next to a mobile drill press with a magnetic base.
