I need a new digital camera, my old Agfa has seen better days and today I tried to use my picphone to take pics while Jeepin , and only 7 were clear enough to see anything and even then they were all the crappy shots, I had what would have been a nice pic that showed a Turbo 400 that had actually cracked open with the help of a heavy foot and 42"s. This sucks! So I am looking into getting new one, I want one that can take decent pics in all kinda of light, but not one that Is so expensive that I would mind too much if I dropped it and messed it up. So whats everyone use, or recomend?

I won't recomend a particular brand, but make sure you know what you want it to DO, before buying. I got my coolpix last year, and it's great for snapshots, with the 3x power 'zoom'..but if yer looking at scenery, it's not so great. They've got 10 power zooms now. Also, with a digital, make sure you carry extra (recharger pays for itself) batteries, as they suck down the batt juice. Go ahead and buy the larger meg memory card, a 16 meg doesn't hold squat..the 256 holds around 190 pics. Don't have any info on the cd disc kind. :viking:

Poomba has most of it...... but don't rely on his figures for storage, how many pics you get in X amount of storage depends on pic format, resolution and color depth.

Personally, I'd ignore all zooms except optical, carry extra batteries, etc.

Having said that, I'm probably going to pick myself up a Canon EOS Rebel Digital in a couple of weeks, and this will certainly fall outside of your specs. Dan, if you want to play, I'm sure we can arrange something.

I'd go with Nikon, It's all I've used for many a moon. The Coolpix 2100 is relatively inexpensive(can find for around $150). It is 2 mega pixels which would yeild a nice 8x10 given highest settings where used. The 3100 is 3.2 megapixels(around $250) which would give you an 11x14. Then they just go up in price from there, features also increase, so it depends on how much you want to spend at this point.

Those sound like they would be in my price range. Thanks, I will have to look into those.

Go Film or Go Home.

my dad has the nikon d100 and an assortment of lenses and we love it. last year for christmas he got me a fuji finepix 3800 and it takes an awesome pic for a camera in it's price range. also check out the canon powershot s50. while i love nikon, i really wouldn't recommend the lower model number coolpix cam's as they don't have a view finder only the little screen and nothing will run down batteries like a digicam screen. i personally would never buy a camera without a view finder but that's just me. hth.

I got an Olympus Stylus 300 for Christmas and have been really happy with it. I'm just a regular point and shoot guy, so it does everything I want. 3.2 megapixel and 3x optical zoom. The software is easy to use and I have had really great experience with Olympus customer service on another camera I had.

I am home thankyouverymuch :confused1

And I still like my digital better than my SLR - so there!

I love the digital because you can actually "SEE" what you have created in your image right away. I still shoot film, but after I setup my composition in digital. Less film waste, and I can still get great enlargements... :yap:
Just two more of my cents......
