What are your thoughts on a lock rite locker?

I got a dana 30 with a lockrite for free, and it works well.

Pretty noisy and bindy in the tight sand dunes, but it never causes issues.

I did have an aussie in my 8.25, and I took it out, because for my purposes, the jeep does great with the front locked only. An open rear axle is better on the road, IMO. (Or an arb)

I'll let you know after i throw it in this weekend! :D

friend wheeled on 33's then 35's for colse to a year on a d30 lockrite, took a bunch a teeth off the pinion then sold the licker to me, i ran it for a year on 33's and beat the shit out of it, broke 2 shafts and it still worked fine till i parted the jeep out, just bought one for the frt 60 in the big jeep, great locker

Re: Your thoughts on a lock right locker

Eh it looks like they dropped the no warranty over 32" part

I almose mentioned something on the above post about 33's too. Cause i could have swarn i read something about the warranty up to 32" tire but couldn't find it again.

The original lock rite had a tire size and HP limit on it according to them.

I ran one in my old dodge truck for over 12 yrs with 40" tires and close to 450 hp, it barely looked used when I sold the axles.

I bought an axle with one. Decided to tear the axle apart and use the Lockright in my Jeep. It looks good with very little sign of wear and i have no clue how long it was in that axle.

they are tough, a friend of mine had one in the 8.8 in his 93 Cobra. It was a 5speed car and ran as fast as 10.31 and the lock right hung in there for it all. Made 575hp to the tires.

Mine ran a little bit faster than that...in the 1/8th.......

9 sec flat with 40" tires in a 6500 lb 7 1/2' tall truck (79 Dodge ramcharger, so no more aerodynamic than a jeep)

I was not gentle on that axle/locker either...many tire chirping 1-2 shifts from the auto trans

Aussie, Lockright, Spartan. All the same thing. I wouldn't have any qualms about running any of them.

And a nike, reebok and new balance are too...

I will say that if you took everything out of the aussie box and put it in a zip lock bag, as well as the lockrite in its own zip lock, and even a ez locker or quick loc (both discontined). I would not be able to tell you which is which. But if you put the spartan in a zip lock, I would INSTANTLY be able to tell you, thats a spartan right there. Its hard to miss the included hardened cross shaft, the retainer pin, the small pins that you use to hold back the dowels, and the much larger dowels with the springs that are encapulated in the dowel pins. Much different in look, parts and material.

So you really think a spartan locker is much better then a lock right? I have a lock right in my front D60 and sometimes I think I have an open diff! I was considering spending the cash and getting an ARB to match the rear. But for 1/4 the price, maybe Ill swap in a spartan.

The spartan is just a bit more of a thought out design over those of the years past. BUT its still Just a insert locker. They are the least of a locker. You will be Much happier with a selectable over a insert.

Rob knows his stuff, and he saved me a LOT of dough when I did my axle setups. Went with a Yukon Grizzly locker from his company out back instead of Detroit, and the friend who installed it for me said it actually looked way better machined than any locker he'd seen. Rob won't steer ya wrong. :)

if youre going to get an auto locker for the rear get a no-slip. IMO thats the only one to do unless its trail only. Front is a different story since its typically not driven/locked unless youre wheeling.

x2 I never heard/felt mine out back with my 35's whereas I would always hear/feel the aussie/lockright in the backs on my buddys rigs.

The lockright in my 30 lasted 6+ years of abuse before the pin holes started to stretch out and I broke a pin or two. The teeth still looked good though. I choose to get a lockright over the spartan for my new front HP60 because right before I ordered it a buddy installed a spartan in his 60 and wasnt very happy. The fit and finish was low quality and required some massaging to get it to fit properly. Instead of trying to save the ~$25, I went with a tried and true lockright.
