what are YOU shooting these days?

Colt AR-15

Thinking about selling the AR.

Can you still shoot at Uwharrie? I'd love to shoot the AR. I'd also love to own one.

If I get work coming in soon is like to build one.... Planning on using a bravo company 14.5" upper with a mid length gas system and magpul furniture. Should be a good reliable all around rifle

XD9, Ruger 10/22, Marlin Model 60, Remington 700 in. 243, and a Mosin M44! :D

Are you sure a middie length is going to work on a 14.5" barrel? A short barrel with a long gas length can be problematic, such as the ingenious rifle gas system on a 16" barrel.

When I was up there for the work day they said it was still closed.

Ill be honest I don't know a lot about the ar platform but what kind of problems? I know the longer gas system has a slower cyclic rate of fire and a less harsh recoil (as much recoil as a .223 round could produce)

last my star m43 9mm i got from mark, its a sweet little gun. ive been researching it a lot and have become a little bit of an aficionado of the star pistols, currently trying to track down an extractor and spring for it.

X2 on the Star pistols. Have my Firestar.45 for 15 years now. It fits my hand way better than my Colt 1911 A1. Love to shoot it. It is getting hard to find those nowadays.

i usually see one or two m40/m43's at every gun show i go to... this week ill start picking through gunsmith boxes in town to try and find an extractor spring that will work. its not pulling about 5% of its brass, and the extractor is not chipped or worn i think the spring is weak and its just not holding on under cartridge pressure

You may run into problems with lighter ammo short stroking due to that lower cyclic rate, not enough gas getting down the tube. The right tuning with your bcg, buffer and spring, and possibly an adjustable gas block and you shouldn't have any problems, oh and don't shoot crap ammo. It's not necessarily a bad set-up, just can be problematic if not built right.

Here is another picture of my Sig 516 with its new furniture paint job. I shoot it and the .45 at tactical matches with some serious operators. I have no chance at doing very well in the competition but I'm learning a ton.

what do you consider "crap" ammo? All my cartridges i shoot are all factory stuff no reloads. and im not really into "tuning" for ammo anyhow. I want what i shoot to be able to shoot what is common, in this case anything that is similar to military 5.56. going for mobile agile and hostile here ;) if i have to spend a ton of money to get it to shoot reliably ill go buy an AK and drag it through the mud but i really really want to build an AR.

on a side note.... you happy with the RIA 1911? under 5 bills for a 1911 is nice but theres nowhere i can lay my hands on one in town

crap ammo=wolf, tula, that bunch.

If you are going to be shooting Federal/Lake City, PMC, Remington etc. You will be fine. Normal stuff. Right now I'm liking the 500 rds of Federal American Eagle that my toy store had a deal on.

Palmetto State Armory (PSA) is a big ongoing trend right now. There are a lot of people building their rifle kits and running the crap outta them. They have some damn good prices on their rifle kits for what seems so far as very good quality.

The RIA- a very good deal on a 1911. Everyone that shoots it always says how smooth it is and they want one. Stuck up Kimber freaks will talk trash because the tolerances are a little loose, but that is fine with me as a carry rig. Kinda like the AK, I want it to go bang no matter what whenever I need it. I'm kinda wishing I had gone with the 5" though, knowing now what we have done with that holster, it would still be perfectly concealable.

yeah ive been looking at the psa stuff i was planning on building the lower with their stuff

I had a RIA for years. Mine was picky with ammo when I first got it but a wolf 18lb recoil springs and some wilson combat mags fixed it. I had a little trigger work done and got a pair of houge grips and loved it. It still had the GI sights.
Another good pistol is a High Standard Crusader. http://www.lipseys.com/itemdetail.a...es&type=Semi-Auto+Pistol&action=Single+Action
Its a little heavy but Im a bigger guy and 38oz extra weight didn't make that big of diffrence. Its a little higher than the RIA but it has a lot of bells and whistles. Its a philippines pistol like the RIA. My current carry pistol is a Kahr CW9. I've had this thing for a couple years and LOVE it. I'll not carry anything else. Once you can get used to the trigger its an amazing little gun. It has a houge grip also. I'll try to get some pictures of it tonight.

Mostly Lacrosse balls with 27 ten year olds. I take one every once in a while and a hard rubber ball going 30-50mph hurts when you don't wear a cup.

Ex lacrosse goalie here-- you don't have to tell me!! Them indians made some hard rubber! I woulda killed for only 30-50 mph!!

My old coach used to line us up for cup checks... he would swing his stick lightly into the crotch. If you weren't wearing one, you could either run all practice long or elect to take the hit and go home and get the cup.

Oh, and goalies were fun. I knew one that his legs would get so bruised he would dodge the ball when a shot headed towards his thighs. "Coach I swear they are doing it on purpose" "oh, no they aren't" then the coached looked straight at me and instructed me to nail em because he was whining. I could crank a shot out around 65mph side armed. That game is a blast.

On a side note, I will have the opportunity to go to a range that is 200+ yards this weekend. Not exactly long distance, but I was challenged I wouldn't be effective at 150yrds with the bolt .22. Care to play buck-a-bottle?

i played 1st string attack, backup midfielder, backup defenseman, oh yeah and did i mention i was the only back up goalie as well..... i was the only one who came to the team with any stick skills since it was still pretty new here at the high school level when i played.... thankfully our goalie was an all state goalie who would start even if he was on deaths door, because i was good but nowhere near what he was

goalies are either insane or not very good! I played 3 yrs of rec. lacrosse and 2yrs of high school-- never was afraid to step in front of a shot, but wished I hadn't a few times.

I watched a friend of mine from rec league die on the field and decided it wasn't that important anymore (he took a shot to the chest that stopped his heart, but it was determined that he had a deficiency from birth that could have gotten him at any time)

baseball and softball took up my time after that-- same dangers, but much lower chance of death!

Skilled second baseman available-- if anyone's in need:wave:

sorry to hear that.... commotio cordis (sp?) was always a fear of mine, chest impact at just the precise moment between heartbeats causing it to stop, lacrosse players and baseball catchers know what im talking about. but then again every time i get in my car an 18 wheeler might run a red light and turn me to paste. All about the risks you take.

sounds like exactly what happened to him-- I just decided to reduce the chances of it happening to me (with a little help from the girlfriend at the time and parents)

Soccer and hockey were still in play at the time, but cars and girls soon won out over sports....
