Went to the dragstrip

Oh yeah, octane booster will result in fewer BTUs, ie, less heat available to make power, so fewer actual HP.....octane booster is only needed if your motor is pinging due to pre-det.....

An 8 second astro would be cool BUT you gotta think of it this way, Astro's are work/utility vans so naturally they're HEAVIER. An Astro would almost be better suited to off-roading then drag-racing. I've got an '03 Astro w/the 4.3 Vortec(3rd generation?) and it's quick but my XJ will take it down. I also have an '89 S10 Blazer, 4.3(non-vortec) w/the Holley NOS setup& TBI, Edlebrock intake manifold, intake& tb spacer, performance chips, 4.10 gears, RV Cam, Buick Park Avenue Supercharger Pace Setter Headers and a true dual 3" exhaust all the way back it's a helluva lot quicker than stock but still no 8 seconds...

Turbo-II was essentially a Turbo-1 with more boost, or maybe Turbo-1 was the 2.2 and Turbo-II was the 2.5. Turbo-III was the Lotus version of the 2.2 motor, aluminum everything, DOHC, something like 224HP @ the fly, but needed to be rebuilt every 10-20k (as I recall - I used to drool over those 2.2s & 2.5s, my first car was a Sundance without a single option, the thing had 94HP and I drove it like I stole it - even had a manual tranny.....ah, memories....) Turbo-IV was the VNT Turbo, pioneered by Shelby for the Dodge Omni GLH & GLHS. Lotsa balls, I forget the power rating (somewhere a little north of the Turbo-III?), less reliable than the T-III due to the impeller vanes getting clogged with carbon deposits and so-on.

Wow, I actually DO know something! And go figure, it's completely useless, cuz that motor's obsolete and hasn't been built since, oh, about 96 or so.....maybe 94 when then-Chrysler came out with the 2.0 for the Neon and all those other crap cars....LONG LIVE THE P-BODY!!!! (Sundance/Shadow)

It was more than that, the TII's also had beefier caps on the rods (unless it was an '88 those got garbage lightweight rods), forged crank (TI's and 2.5 TI's got cast cranks), cross drilled head (whatever that was, I've never really seen one in person), and I think they may have run a little more boost than the TI's (the '84-'87 TI's had a Garret turbo that was similar to the TII's, while the '88 and later TI's had a smaller Mitsubishi turbo and a milder roller cam to make it "more drivable":bs: ), and I think the blocks were a little stronger too. Never heard the carbon thing on the TIV's but the TIII's heads were designed by ,the then owned by GM (which made me wonder......), Lotus and had a variety of issues with cracked heads and timing belt problems. I had a Turbo P-Body ('88 Shadow ES) and a Turbo H-Body ('85 Lebaron GTS), and I thought the H body was better of the two.

. now a guy i know runs an 8 second astro van , and that was the 4.3 with the 700r4, now its a 400 small block and a th350. but a 4wd cherokee. hmmmmm I thinky you were bored or just plain goofy!

not a chance in hell....maybe you dont realize the type of power it would take an Astrovan to break 9's.....especially break 8's....

i dont belive you.

You have 93k on her. Your not going to get near a record with a motor the is way way over the hill by drag standers.
Open up the ex a bit and pitch the filter systems. A K&N may help but it's the turn into the TB that is killing top end HP.

attacha cone filter directly to the top of the tb and cut a hole in the hood for it

then put a forward facing scoop on it, Pontiac tells me that RAM AIR is what you need.

EVEN BETTER
procure* your neighbors mailbox and weld it to the hood. the little red flag on the side would be awesome!

For those that have ran the 1/4 will you please post your ET and MPH for the 1/8 and 1/4 on each run? I ran the 1/8 in the Jeep and wanted to know how my times compare to everyone else. Thanks!

Don't feel bad. My best 1/4 mile time was 18.55 sec. @ 75 mph. But that of course was Pueblo Motorsports Park, at 5000 feet above sea level. High elevation KILLS performance no matter what you drive.

I ran a 17.1 at 78 mph, and ran the 1/8th at 10.2 sec. at 64mph. Thats with an intake, TBS, and dynomax cat back. It should be faster but its a 4 door, 4x4, with rock rails and full skids, not to mention 235x75's. I ordered a clifford header, magnaflow cat, and am getting the whole exhuast changed to 2.5" so ill let yall know what kinda times i get after that.

So a 10.2 at 69mph isn't bad for a stock jeep with 235/75 tires, also? It is a 4 door but not a 4x4. It is a Sport model and has all of the options (except the most important, 4x4). It also still had the stock steel wheels at the time.

I was cutting 2.3 60' times and only got a few passes so I didn't want to mess with lowering the air pressure. I am putting a 99+ intake on it and just today but some aluminum wheels on it. I am hoping for 9's at 70+ mph.

Aluminum wheels are not necessarily any lighter. Check them out before you buy.

drewken, what was your 1/4 time?

That's the problem...I only ran the 1/8. I haven'thad time to run the 1/4 in it yet.

On the alum. wheels - I bought a pair of OEM wheels. I weighed a steel one and an aluminum one and the aluminum one was lighter.

I forgot the exact weight difference, I will throw them both on the scale again and report back.

The only things done are a removed cat and a hacked airbox. The cat was just replaced with a piece of straight pipe and for the airbox I just cut some of the plastic off of it on the fender side only so that there would still be a "heat shield" left.

Yeah it just didnt make sense that motor trend was gettin 0-60 in 8.2 sec and 16.2 quarters. Then again, it was most likely 10k miles or so when they did that. Oh well, ive sold most of my stuff to help pay for college and i joined a motorsports club there so we'll see what i can do when im there. Im pretty sure they have some old turbos laying around ;)
