Okay, now that I see the plan, I don't understand why you are keeping the rocker so low. Originally you mentioned not wanting to make it difficult to get in and out, which sounds fair, but then you show us a cage that will cramp your style a ton more than raised rockers.
If that is how high you intend to have a side bar, I don't see a good reason not to raise the rocker up another 4-6 inches at least. If nothing else, you should mock it up high before you fit and weld the tube in there to see if you like it. Once you see the clearance gains, I think it will be pretty easy to convince youself that it is a good idea...

Also, while looking at raising the rocker I ran in to the issue of the seating for the drivers side. I dont know how others are getting non XJ seats to work in there with a true raised boat side? Last night I set my seat on the driverside floor board and found that the outside adjuster as it is with as floor board as I have now will be about 1" from the rocker.
So if I raised the rocker and I plated the frame up to the rocker at one angle I would have to remove more floor and then dont know how to get my buckets to fit. Well I could but they would be higher then stock, and I was hoping to lower and at worst the same as stock.
I would love to see more in depth pictures of rockers on cut up rigs to see and get idea's. but searching is liek forever on that. each one has maybe one that is a hit under a good search and then your lucky to get one per search result.

My buildup thread is in here somewhere, and AFAIK, I have gone higher than anyone with this much sheet metal. I am using stock seats, but not stock mounts... The seats are approximately stock height. Not alot of great pictures of the seats though.
I guess it all depends on how your seats work, but I know I had to design the mounts for these, and it wasn't that hard...
The passenger seat has no adjustability. The drivers side is on a set of summit double lock sliders. There isn't a ton of room for the sliders and adjuster handle, but it does work... and my boatsides are skinned inside and out. I could have left the inside skin off and had a bunch of room.
I still recommend a quick mock-up. Maybe an easy solution to the seat problem will present itself?

well decided that with just raising the rockers as high as poss without removing firewall or removing the floor, was high enough for me.
Here are some progress pictures. The drivers seat was a true PITA! I finially just pounded in the TC hump some to get it to clear and allow it to be lower about a inch without interfering with the TC below the floor.
So far I am very happy with the progress. I dont know if any rail to rock tie in is really needed forward of what I have, and there-fore will not have anything under the rocker to the rail. Time will tell though. I am thinking that Maybe? that the frame tie in along the inside floor area for about 28" will be sufficent along with the door hinge tube goign down to the the rocker in the front area. Then the cage being build from the rocker and then tied to the front bumper, rear bumper, shock bridge, and then prolly the front inner fender area. any thoughts, anyone?

well more progress. Just need the front fender tubes and rear upper c pillan tube, and then on to the 1.5" cross bracign everywhere.. I forgot how much fun a manual bender really is. Its been al most a yr since I built a cage. I think I need a hydro conversion for it..

well almost there.. Just needed more tube. So I quit for the day.
Need top X and front fender area tubes, then go get my spare from my buddys and make a carrier for the rear. Oh and have to get the rear LED lights together. Oh and cut the ends of that rear bumper off now...
wife clicked one on my way to 7-11 for some more jack...

wow i was looking for an update! man that is top quality work i really like the design...are you going to french in any panels on the sides or leave it totally open? i really want to see how you do the front fenders becasue i think i am going to do something very similar by removing the fenders and running tube in its place but i would still need some coverage...anyways glad to see it starting to come together!
