anyways, it looks like im going to do a few searches for builds that people have done with 120 V machines, and see if they are comparable to what im going to be doing.

Id like to be able to do 230, but between the extra expense, and having to pay to have a garage wired, im not sure if i could swing it

I have noticed that I have a harder time welding "pretty" with the 120 volt when dealing with less than ideal materials, it doesn't burn the junk out as well as the 230

if your capable of working on a car, you are capable of running a sub panel for 220v to where you want to weld.

yes its an extra expense, but worth it in the end.

You can make a 120v work. But 230v is that much better.

It definitely would be. I bought a Lincoln Weld Pak 100 a few years ago and now I wished I would have stepped up to a 230v. I haven't done many project, but I feel it bog down. It can do up with 1/4" with multiple passes.

I'm going to keep this welder and just make it work for me. I haven't done the mig conversion, yet, because I weld in my driveway and it's like a wind tunnel.

So, if you can swing the extra money, then do it. If you can't, then you can't.
