World Extreme Rock Crawling​

Goldendale, WA​

August 1-2, 2015​

WE-Rock was in town for part of their western series of rock crawling events. I headed up again this year to go watch some cone dodging for the day.​

Crossing over from Biggs, it was already getting warm outside.​

Once at the event site, I geared up for the day in the heat, got my wristband, and hiked in. I quickly scoped out the courses, and found Jesse Haines on course in "Pokey" his most recent promod car.​

WE-Rock has several different classes, from your "average" trail wheeler, to unlimited four wheel steer moon buggies. I was waiting for the flop shot, but this team worked through this section with no reverse penalty.​

Some of you might recognize this orange first gen. Jason handed the keys to the misses, and took up the role of spotter for the weekend.​

It was a dusty day for sure.​

Main stretch above the courses was busy with staging, wrenching, vendors, and spectators.​

Team Tippy at it again.

Sometimes things don't go as planned. The driver was still on the gas after the flop trying to drive out of it with no luck.

Opie "XJ_Ranger" out representing the XJ's.

This was a tight squeeze through the cones, Opie and his spotter did an awesome job getting through with a little rear burn action.

Opie's always fun to watch.


Oops. He, stayed in it though and was able to right himself back on the tires. Definitely got some cheers from the crowd for that.

Unfortunately, it looked like his radiator or hose blew from the flop.

Going for the bonus line on the lower course, it was a tight gate.

Using some amazing finesse, they were able to crab walk through.

You can always tell a rock rig from the tires.

Traction bar. There were a few setups out there on some of the leaf sprung rigs.

Team Canada.

Drive, "I'm going to roll" Spotter, "You're good" Driver, "Are you sure?" Spotter, "Pretty sure..."

This line is pretty sketch with a pretty good sized drop off on the driver side. Hanging tire is what it took to clear the final gate.

With no rear steer option, Cody did great getting lined up, but ended up clipping the front cone with just one tire lug. Bummer.

James ended up clipping a cone as well trying to finesse through the bonus line.

James is a really smooth driver to watch. I was very surprised to catch a near flop, but he was just as quick to grab reverse out of it.

What would probably have most of us yelling for a strap, Jesse calmly drove through a tippy line. It's amazing how stable these cars are on the rocks. Don't mind the aftermath of a sheared pinion on the right.

Dropping into one of the courses featured a sharp left turn after the drop. This driver diff'd out on the rock, and bumped through it. The stickies caught traction and launched the front passenger tire into the tree.

With the days events coming to an end, I hiked out and called it a day. It was pretty warm.

Saw a minivan engulfed in flames just outside Portland.

Awesome event to go too. I'd highly recommend making the trip out next year. In the mean time, I want front digs!
