Went to use my winch the other day and it wouldn't work. Hasn't been used in about 6 months. What should I check on it? The connections were a little corroded so I cleaned them but still nothing.

Nothing happens at all. Hooked directly to the battery.

Mine has the same problem except its been more like a year or so. Still waiting to learn how to fix em'.

I thought about junking my winch...a friend bought a 8k winch from harbour frieght for $400 and got a two year warrenty with it. When we went out testing my new front suspension with out a front driveshaft it pretty much dead pulled me out of the mud 3 times with my front 35's under the mud. It did start to get hot after the third pull but I think his battery and charging system were not up to the task. Doubled up it would have worked great.

If it doesn't click, check the solenoid. If the solenoid clicks when you jump it, check the connections on your control cable.
Also verify that your ground connection is clean.

Finally got to look into it and found th problem. One of the wire end in the plug on the winch was gone. Had to look all over to find something to replace it with and had to drill out the hole a little to get it to work. Everything is fine now. Even respooled the cable to make it look as new as I could.
