I wouldn't say AMD is any better than Intel for gaming. There are plenty of benchmarks and comparisons online you can look at. Here is an article from iracing http://www.iracing.com/inracingnews/iracing-news/building-the-iracing-system-101 it's from a year ago and they recommend a Nvidia GTX 460. What I've read a separate Video card is highly recommended.

Unless you are SERIOUSLY into pc gaming, over clocking, liquid cooling, multiple graphics cards, etc. Yeah, theres no differance between the two for gaming. Sure, some game developers have fallen into the method of saying 'designed for xxx archetecture', but usually it'll run just fine on the competitors card.
For the most part, as long as youve got a newer pci-express graphics card, with a good ammount of video ram, and a built system, most games will run great.
