Wanted, AW4

it is a drastic step backward for trail use. Loss of torque multiplication, ability to use brake and gas at the same time efficiently. I learned to wheel in a FJ55 3 speed and then an early bronco, then nissan all manual trans.

You are stating your opinion. Don't come on here like you're stating fact.

Alright, last post on this issue for me. Lots of info left out because this was a thread about davidt finding a transmission, not my POS Jeep and its trans problems. :rattle:

This should be a lesson for everyone(including me), just don't assume all the relevent info is placed within the post you are reading. And opinion is just that, opinion. Fact is that the manual/auto tranny debate will never go away, both have their pros and cons. Again, to each his own.

So, does anybody have a good AW4 in the Reno area that this guy can get?

You just want my old tranny, but thanks for getting this thing back on topic ;)

Check on Pirate4x4.com in the Engine/Tranny/t-case for sale section. I have seen lots of AW4's in there recently for cheap prices. Otherwise the bone yards like J&W here in Sacramento want $800 for 1 regardless of mileage and year. Also check car-part.com and put in your parameters and you'll find 1. You should easily be able to find 1 around you in Reno.

I know of a place where I can get one for $250 with everything down to the t-case, but I hate to have to go and pull it...thanks troy, I have been checking, and nothing has popped up yet...

You'll find 1. Try to get a 91'+ for the nice 23 spline unit. You can convert your t-case over then too. It wouldn't be a total swap in then, but worth the effort.

that's pretty good. plus, by pulling it yourself you make sure you get everything you need and you know exactly how it goes back together.

I have an aw4 out of a 91. I have the flex plate, torque converter, and flywheel to go with it. It has low mileage, and worked perfect when it was pulled. It is sitting on the side of my house wrapped in plastic, I am sure my wife would like to see it go. I held on to it in case my aw4 ever took a crap, but it is still going strong (280,000). If you are interested send me a pm.

The tranny came out of a 91 briarwood cherokee, 4.0 high output, 242 transfer case, if that makes a difference.

Sorry, wish you were closer, i am thinking I want to go with something closer. the more I think about it, the more I think that it might just be easier to pull it myself and get what i need, but don't let that stop your offers from coming. Thanks for the offer.
