It turned out that my 2 week old XJ was a pile and I sold it cheap.

Now I have no XJ.........

Looking for a nice XJ. Can be built, stock, lifted, not, whatever. Just nice and reliable.
4 door, 4.0

Budget 3000-4000.

Would love a turn key, toss in the family, and go camping 5 hours away XJ.

The biggest downsides to a salvaged vehicle is that few lenders will loan money for a salvaged title vehicle and few insurance companies will insure them.

If you are just looking to pay cash for an off-road toy then those issues are moot. Just due a thurough inspection on the vehicle to make sure it is road worthy and you will most likely get a really good deal.

Me personally, I try to stay away from them unless the price is right. Out of this group, that '96 in Murrieta, I think, would be a good buy (price is right in line with KBB); especially where you're looking for reliability and longevity, I think that one will get you there..

One question I would have for that particular seller is how long has the Jeep been for sale and why it hasn't sold yet. In the ad it has 117, 961 miles, but the odometer shows 116, 775. It looks to be a well taken care of Jeep, but if so, why hasn't it sold in 1300 miles?

GL !

Yeah, if you are not looking for full coverage or it is an older vehicle anyhow it doesn't really matter to the insurance company. It's not like trying to insure a late model $20k+ salvaged vehicle.

the only issue is full coverage or comprehensive coverage. i think maybe uninsured motorist too. you will not get those with a salvaged title. other than that, nothing is changed.
if your insurance company gives you crap, switch to esurance, cheap as hell and i've had a few claims and they've been exceptional.

Mine is a salvage title and I have all that coverage. Salvage was due to a bucket of rags spontaneously combusting in the cargo area. Luckily the windows were closed and the fire put itself out...

But Geico doesn't care that it is salvaged.

have you both told the companies that it was salvaged? they may not ask while you're giving them money, but when it comes time to pay out, they may say it's not covered.

I found a nice looking xj yesterday, and I pulled the oil cap off. Nice pretty milky white oil.
The owner said he had aftermarket oil installed to get 30 mph. That's why it's white. Oh man.

Oh, I've heard of that special kind! It's designed to mix with the coolant so that it makes the engine run cooler. The possibilities are endless. 30mpg?!? Try 1,000!!! muhahahaha!

Had the same thing happen to me on a 2001 I looked at. I told the owner what the milky oil meant and he turned red. Offered him $500 for it and he got mad. Kyle, I think between the two of us we could write a full-length comedy on the perils of XJ shopping. :roflmao:

There is also a new trend of jokers. Friends of friends posting good valued XJ's. When I call, they have no idea why I'm calling. They get so mad that their friends are posting jeeps for sale just to piss em off.
Oh So Cal. I love you.
