VoIP and faxing

We have a single VoIP line through comcast and I'm trying to set up a fax machine with it. After unsuccessful attempts I now have the phone line coming out of the cable modem going straight to the fax. When someone tries to fax, the machine rings but it never picks up and eventually goes to voicemail. I can send with no trouble.

I thought I'd try to see if anyone has any experience here before I wait on hold with Dell and/or Comcast. The printer/fax is a Dell MFP1125.

I have vonage and data is basically a nogo. There are some codes you can dial or add a pause on the outbound but, if you figure it out LMK.

I'm in Westminster and I also have comcast voip.

I just use the myfax.com service. I can send and receive faxes from anywhere I have an internet connection.

Sorry, no experience with a dedicated fax machine on the voip line.

Interesting, I have not issues at all sending or receiving faxes on my Vonage line.

Is it a dedicated fax line? If I set the machine to straight up "fax" mode, I can receive the faxes, but regular calls never go to voice mail. If I set it up in "ans/fax" mode, the voice mail picks up and the fax machine doesn't seem to recognize a fax coming in.

I got the manual fax receive operational, where you press *9* if you pick up the phone and hear that it is a fax coming in.

I have the same problem with comcast and I tried a different fax. Let us know if you can fix it.

Do you know where I can get the docs for this device from? I tried to find these on the Dell website but no go.

I have a friend that may be able to help you. Just need some information on the device.

Footdale, yes, when I use my fax we do set it up it as just fax. Have not played with it much outside of knowing I would receive the fax and set it to fax mode.
